Whether it is Star Trek, Lost in Space or Star Wars, collectors seeking items of vintage science fiction toys are growing each and every day.
Star Trek leads the way as it had more motion pictures, spin-offs and series than any other, which leads to, of course more space items to be found.
Keep on the lookout for model kits. A 1966 AMT Enterprise model kit is valued around $400. Others may not quite as sought after, but any made before 1980 is a treasure. It must be mint in box and unmade.
Star Trek Remco phaser guns from 1967 go for well over $100 depending on condition. Anything featuring Mr. Spock is big for collectors including banks, costumes and model kits.
Figurines can range around $20 if in good condition as well. But, don't overlook anything related to Star Trek. Wastebaskets, coloring books, puzzles and paint by number sets are all worth something to collectors.
Prices vary, but in this economy it is a good time to collect.
Star Wars items are the second most sought after space items. Star Wars produced more item than any other sci-fi movie or series.
Items from the original three movies are the highest of value and highly sought after, but anything related to the movies are worth saving. Toys can range from ray guns, board games, robots and play sets.
Action figures are some of the most valuable items, with original ones selling for up to $100 apiece.
The next biggest seller in sci-fi items are those from Lost in Space. Some sets of Lost in Space dolls set for as much as $5,000. A Lost in Space Switch and Go Set from 1966 by Mattel is worth around $2,000. A Lost in Space Remco robot mint in box can go fro around $400. A 1967 Remco and helmet set is worth around $500. A steel lunch box in mint condition is worth around $350. As you can see Lost in Space is another great space collector category.
Don't overlook items from Buck Rogers. Some Buck Rogers items are the highest sought after items on the sci-fi market. Keep your eyes open for a 1933 Buck Rogers cut out adventure book as it can be worth around $5,000. It is hard to find, but among the highest sought after item.
A 1934 Buck Rogers costume by Sackman Brothers is said to be worth over $2,000. A 1935 Buck Rogers pocket watch by E. Ingraham goes for over $3,000.
Buck Rogers items are more common than you think. If they interest you check out eBay and flea markets.
All these items have been decreasing in value as the economy lowered, but are sure to rise in several years.
Other space collectibles to look to collect include Planet of the Apes, Battlestar Gallactica, Flash Gordon and Doctor Who.
When you see a new movie coming out for any vintage sci-fi characters, prices increase. It is a good time to sell, but a lousy time to buy. Keeping track of fads like that will help you get a good deal.
In the meantime, keep your eyes open for deals and continue the fun of collecting.
