Vintage Victorian Accessories for a Romantic Wedding

Christine Bude Nyholm
The Victorian era is an era that we associate with beauty and romance, which makes it a perfect theme for wedding style. In reality, most modern brides would feel very restricted by Victorian manners. The real Victorian bride was not seen in public from the time her engagement was announced until the wedding, for example. Even though we probably do not want to time travel back to the Victorian era, the Victorian styles are still romantic. Add romance to the wedding with dainty Victorian touches. Following are some tips to give your wedding a Victorian style.

Victorian Style Accessories

Beaded purse. The bride can carry a white or ivory purse made of silk or satin. The purse can be decorated with beads and tassels.

Parasol. A lace parasol is the perfect accessory for a garden wedding. Heavy Battenburg lace used for the covering and/or trim is a lovely vintage Victorian look.

Victorian Lace Fan. The bride and bridesmaids can carry a beautiful Battenburg lace fan as an accessory. Victorian ladies used to cool themselves in the heat.

Lace Handkerchief. Before the days of Kleenex tissue, people carried hankies. A white hankie, trimmed with lace could be tucked into the lace purse and taken out to dab the eyes when emotional tears form in the eyes.

Lace Wedding Garter. A wedding garter embellished with lace and pearls is a pretty Victorian look.

Tussie Mussie Holder. The tussie mussie is a small round bouquet of flowers carried by bridesmaids. The tussie mussie holder is a small metal holder for the bouquet. Tussie Mussies Holders are a nice remembrance of the wedding, as a gift to the bridesmaids.

Wedding Jewelry. Look for antique or reproduction Victorian jewelry, such as Tiffany style necklaces and earrings.Reproduction Tiffany jewelry made of Cubic Zirconia and Swarovski crystals can be found at the Vintage Wedding website.

Headpieces. The bridal veil was attached to a pretty headpiece or hat. A circlet of orange blossoms, which were a symbol of fertility, was a very popular choice. A circlet of pearls or crystals is another pretty look for a Victorian bride.

Shawl. Cover the shoulders with a pretty embroidered or lace trimmed shawl.

Lace Gloves, Cover the hands with pretty lace gloves, for a dainty look.

Victorian wedding accessories add a dainty, feminine touch to the bridal fashion. I found Vintage Victorian wedding accessories at Vintage Wedding and Victorian Trading Co.
