Violence Against Women Will Not Be Tolerated nor Will it Be Forgiven

Teresa (Tracey) Stanisha
For women, Lifetime television is a place that you will find a lot of useful information. You will find it very useful and it can help you or other people that you have known that are affected by these crimes. Make it a point to do what you can and get the help you need. You can also find information to get the help for someone else that needs it.

Some movies that depict some of these crimes against women are the movies, "Enough" with Jennifer Lopez, "The Burning Bed" with Farrah Fawcett and "Life Interrupted" with Lea Thompson, which airs this Monday on the Lifetime Network at 9pm. These movies depict what some men can and will do to women and the need for more laws to protect the women.

More and more is being done to help women and to end the violence against them.

A quote from Lifetime Television's website accessed May, 2007 "Know Someone In Need?
If you or a loved one needs help or more information, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE or 800-787-3224 (TTY) or the National Sexual Assault Hotline (operated by RAINN) at 1-800-656-HOPE."

Another fact that will amaze you - 1 in 3 women will suffer from one or more of these crimes in their life and with that known - all women should know how to protect themselves and what they can do.

Help now to put an end to violence against women. It is a fight that is worth it. Go to the link and sign the petition as soon as you can. http://www.lifetimetv.com/endviolence/signthepetition/.
Thank you.

Any society that perpetuates or tolerates violence against women only shows the depth of its gender biast inhumanity.Unfortunately, violence against women is found in all countries around the world and has been an issue for women since the start of time.In todays modern society we still see the same ole thing, women not being viewed as complete or whole humanbeings,so therefore many males feel they are some how entitled to inflict pain, suffering or even death upon the females of a society in which they share.Until a united front is formed which will force lawmakers to break away from their insecure male dominated norms, women and anyone subjected to sexual and others acts of violence against them will not be spared.Though there are also males who find themselves in abusive relationships,we first as women have to save ourselves. If you are in an abusive relationship or being tormented by others you must tell someone...but for many females, just who are you to tell? The male dominated society we live in here in the USA has made it so women have to jump through hoops to get help. Most states have a statute of limitaions on rape and sexual abuse. There are laws against women seeking abortions who do not want the pregnancy that was forced upon them. All who feel that the rules and laws that were created to govern a society are unbalanced need to speak up.If males want to participate, then they can help to create a safe society for women and girls in general by not tolerating any sexual violence. Many males forget one thing...it was a woman who brought them into this world...at very least, show respect for the lives of those females around you, because one day it may very well be your mother, sister, grandmother, wife or daughter ...someone you love... who has to deal with violent behavior at the hand of a male you did nothing to prevent by remaining silent and content with an unbalanced system.

Still say WOMEN do not need more laws. A crime is still a crime. The fact that one is a male or female is of no consequence when a crime has been committed. If that's the case do BLACKS need more specific laws against racism and race crimes that occur than say ASIANS? What people do not realize is that when create laws specifically designed for one group of people in this case women all you do is separate as long as you separate it will the protected class will never be seen as equal. That being said being realistic you may need more laws for women, however all that does is further prove as long as people feel such is needed you are not equal and creating an unnecessary inequality.

I must address this. Yes more laws are needed against the abuse of WOMEN. It will be done.

For women only, do not be afraid to report it. They will get them.

    A quote from http://boards.lifetimetv.com/WebX?14@131.deshcux1m4r.13@.ef3fb69.ef3fb5d!skip=91
"Experts say that every woman should know how to respond to this crisis and where to turn for counseling and help. The hotline for RAINN (www.rainn.org, 800-656-HOPE) can connect you to your local rape crisis center, 24 hours a day. Other resources include: the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (www.nsvrc.org, 877-739-3895), the National Center for Victims of Crime (www.ncvc.org), or the Communities Against Violence Network (www.cavnet.org)."

I am sorry for any experience as mentioned. That is very disturbing that anyone in a situation of violence would be treated differently. All victims of violence should be heard. No matter where and no matter when.

  • Andre Smith Jr5/9/2007

I can say this from personal experience the stigma against abused men from the hands of women you are not only seen as "less of a man", but a joke. Ohh sure society is most quick to run to the aid of a "poor defenseless woman" perhaps historically so this is true for obvious reasons but those reasons have nothing to do with equality. Simply the illusion of. People make that same argument you just made..."well women are abused more" yeah that's all anyone sees or cares about, not even going to get into false reporting of abuse. The cops laugh at you, really don't believe you...you are 6 ft 5 inch man ain't no way the delicate 5 ft 2 inch woman beat you even though most of those women use objects and are not provoked.
