In today's society, violence is all around us. Violence is in the news and on the streets. Violence is in video games and is seen as a source of entertainment. Violence is in the movies and on prime time tv. Violence is even a topic that's covered on the news every single day. Violence is not the answer but, how can we ever expect our young people to get this message if we continue on in the same way?
Right and wrong
With violence all around us, it's hard to discriminate between right and wrong. Society sends us mixed messages all the time and makes us think that violence is the answer. How can we ever expect our young people to learn other ways to deal with their anger when violence is so pervasive in today's society?
Violence Is Violence
On one hand violence entertains us and on the other hand, violence is the thing that can destroy us if we let it. Is there a difference between the kind of violence we see in the movies and the violence in the real world? Any way you look at it, violence is violence. Young people can't discriminate the difference between violence for entertainment and real violence; to them, it's all the same.
Conflict Resolution
There are many different ways to conflict resolution than violence. Violence is not the answer. One of the things that we need to teach people, are all the different ways that they can communicate besides using violence.
Constructive Anger Resolution
When you get angry, there are different things that you can do to get that anger out in a constructive way. For some people, sport's is the way that they vent their anger. For others, art is a way that they vent their anger. Some people like to go for a run when they get angry. How do you deal with anger?
Mixed Messages
In these uncertain times of world events, the mixed messages are even caught up in political issues as well; for instance, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Setting An Example
How can we ever expect the young people of today to find other ways to resolve their conflicts when even our own government doesn't set a good example?
