Violence is Not Necessarily Only on Television

Adults and children a like can be affected tremendously in this world because there is so much turmoil existing among people. Therefore, it is not absolutely true that the only violence is on people's television set. People are not necessarily affected only by television violence; there are several other ways to be influenced or affected by violence.

Abusive behavior in the home can lead to violence. Arbitrary behavior, parents fighting among the children, and an unsafe environment can affect people mentally and physically and can lead to violence. As a result, children in their adulthood may become abusive to their children like their parents because that is what they have learned from their childhood.

In addition, if a neglected person is stuck in his or her childhood, they may use abusive behavior such as verbal abuse (intimidation) and physical abuse to make an individual stay with them in a marriage or in a friendship because they do not want to feel unloved. Sometimes people don't care if their spouse or friend is trying to get away from them because of their mental and physical behavior. As a result, People would rather exist in an unhappy relationship than be "abandoned."

Peer pressure is another way people can be influenced and affected negatively. Gang members can influence a person to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A gang leader could ask an individual to rob a bank in the area, and the person pursues the job. The person may get arrested by the police or get assassinated by the gang leader for not accomplishing the mission. In addition, people, that do not have a true concern for others, can be very controlling by making individuals do what they are not willing to do. If a person is easily led, the person can be intimidated by others into doing what she or he doesn't care for.

Dating can also lead to violence if one of the partners is obsessed with the other partner or if one is very controlling. For example, a very jealous boyfriend sees his girlfriend talking to a male childhood friend whom she has known for many years. After the friend has finished talking to her and leaves her with a hug and kiss on her cheek, her boyfriend slaps her and tells her that if he sees her hugging or talking to another guy again, he will do worse.

Finally, violence on television can affect people at different age levels. A five-year-old child can be terrified by the violence he or she sees on television. Although, a fifteen-year-old boy may think it is cool and might not see the harm that he is watching on a program. A thirty-year-old woman or man, that is single and living in an apartment by him or herself, may not watch any violent programs to stay stable mentally.

Violence on the television may affect people negatively, but it is not the only way people can be influenced negatively.
