I have one neighbor who's a stay-at-home mom, and her husband works long, hard hours. And when he's home, everyone in the neighborhood knows it, because the only thing he seems to know is violence. And he is always making up excuses. I have been trying to help this woman see the light of day, and she insists that he will change. Not everyone has the ability to change, unfortunately. Because of her, I am writing this article.
Violence is not the answer, to anything. If you are fed up with the never ending bills, the neighbors barking dogs that never shut up, or even the fact that your kid is getting bad grades. The fist is not going to solve the problem. And if you are feeling the need to hit something, pick up your pillow and scream in it. For that matter, take your anger out on mowing the lawn! Do something else! Anything else. In many states, violence is a crime. And there are many types of violence, for that matter. As you are pacing in anger, fed up at the World, and the dog stops in front of your path, don't kick it! You are the adult, you are supposed to be older and wiser. Maybe it seems at though the animal is daring you, but also-maybe it wants let out to go potty. Just because you are angry at the World, doesn't mean everyone else should have to endure your wrath!
There are a lot of wrongs in the world lately, with the terrorists, the cost of living, high fuel prices- just so much to make a working person feel like they are never getting anywhere. It is always understandable, getting fed up. But don't hit your wife, your kid, and even the dog, just because you are at wits end! And then make up an excuse and apologize for it the next day. And let's not forget, lets keep repeating this routine day after day. No, this is uncalled for, and unfair to everyone around you! How would you like it, if people beat on you because of how things were going for them? Just because you are bigger, and stronger then your wife and kids, doesn't mean it should just have to be! Just because you are the bread winner, and they depend on you, and you consider them unequal to you, gives you no right what so ever.
And by all means, I know there are women abusers out there, who endure beatings from their men-who then see fit to take it out on the children. And then there are those who tell there children it is normal, and cower and cry in the corner, that too-is another form of abuse. Children witnessing this violence are also suffering. It is not just you. And if you are beating your children, because you were just beat, and it just feels right-you too, need set straight.
Violence solves nothing. It makes everything worse, and hurts everyone involved, inside and out. Get counseling, and stop making excuses, for everyone. It is time for a change. Stand up for yourself. If you cant do it in front of the one beating you, wait until they leave. Save yourself, and if there are children involved, save and protect them too! Make a difference! Make a change, it starts with you!

Post a CommentThank you! I want to open the eyes of people, that is one of my goals, believe it or not!
Excellent article. :-) You have to love yourself to love others. Sadly, some never learn this important lesson. Their frustration and rage comes out. It can be such a terrible cycle of abuse repeating in generation after generation. You gave good advice.
