Violent Night - a Carol in Rhyme for the Holiday Time

(This 21st-Century Christmas Carol Can Be Sung to the Familiar Tune of "Silent Night.")

Linda Ann Nickerson
Violent night, wholly at flight;
Overload, budget fright,
Hostile customers, cutting in line.
Overspending elicits a whine:
We need Heavenly peace;
We need Heavenly peace.

Violent night, wholly at flight;
Desecrate with delight.
No nativities in the town squares.
Can't say "Christmas" without angry stares:
We need Heavenly peace;
We need Heavenly peace.

Violent night, wholly at flight;
Decorate; make it bright.
Bakers whip up their sugared surprise.
Tempers flare, right before youngsters' eyes:
We need Heavenly peace;
We need Heavenly peace.

Violent night, wholly at flight,
While the world fills with light,
As the calendar fills to the brim,
Will we miss the arrival of Him,
Who brings Heavenly peace;
Him, who brings Heavenly peace?
