Sitting at my computer and typing up my latest masterpiece, I am listening to our local news anchor drone on and on about the latest news of the Wall street fiasco. Then the anchor says that they have breaking news and video that I will not believe. Well, I have heard that promise before and I doubted that I would "not believe" it but I looked up anyway. Man was I wrong.
It showed a video of a local fast food restaurant doing what appeared to be normal business. There was a middle aged man, probably around forty years of age standing in line and waiting to have his order taken. Behind him was a teenaged girl, no more than sixteen, talking to him. The man has about three to four children with him, and they are in various places around his feet and legs. There appears to be nothing out of order, and I am beginning to wonder what is so incredible about the video.
Then, without any warning, the man turns around and starts pummeling the teenaged girl. I do not mean just slapping her. He is raining down serious punches, and landing them. Even as she is falling to the floor, he is swinging and landing the punches. The anchor explains that the two are complete strangers, and that the man got fed up with her fussing about him cutting in line. Really? Cutting in line?
This man beat the hell out of a teenager over her fussing about him cutting in line? What is truly incredible about the whole thing is that not one other person in line, including some full grown men, did a thing to stop it.
I am sorry, but if I had been in that line I would have had to do something. I can not understand how in the world such a ridiculous thing can happen in broad daylight. The police are "searching for the man" as we speak, and there is little doubt he will be caught and prosecuted but that is just not enough. This man deserves to have is tail whipped but good.
Our society has entered a phase of violence that knows absolutely no bounds. I have tried to teach my children a kindler, gentler way of living and that violence is not the answer. I always turn the other cheek when I get the chance to do so. I have always had a strong belief in humanity, even when it is difficult to do so.
This bothered me in a different way, however. It is one thing to hear about the latest home invasion, or gang murder. The occasional serial killer, and robbery on Main street is something that we have all become painfully aware of. This was no serial killer, however. This was someone's Grandpa or Father that simply snapped at a fast food joint. It reminds me of the same feelings I get when I hear about the latest school shooting, or any violence towards children.
These types are a whole different breed of idiot. To me, I wonder if maybe a good old fashioned tail whipping might do them some good? When we fall so far that we start hitting children because of breaking kindergarten rules, then we have crossed a line that I do not want to think about.
