Violet's Day at the Beach

Summertime Haiku Inspired by the Purple-shaded Storms Along the Atlantic Coast

M.G. Hardiman
Purple is one of the most popular colors of them all, certainly my favorite. Purple is also the color of Yahoo!, the planet's most visited home page and a super-cool, global brand that completely changes the way that people communicate with each other, find, create and share information today.

When I consider the color purple, a day at the beach comes to mind. The images are vivid: purple-blue shades of ocean tides, crashing waves on the Atlantic Coast shoreline, shimmering sand that changes color with the position of the sun, empurpled clouds piled high in the sky, and storms rolling in as waist-high Irises shiver in the wind back at the beach house.

What better way to celebrate Associated Content's acquisition by Yahoo! than with a picture-perfect, purple-colored Haiku? Here's a Haiku about a young girl's day at the shore.

Hazy, purple rays
Dark clouds warn of storms ahead
Thunder rumbles by.

  • Pantone selected Blue Iris as its 2008 Color of the Year.
  • Today, the color purple invokes nobility, majesty and spirituality...as well as Yahoo!
  • The color purple inspired a summertime Haiku entitled, Violet's Day at the Beach.
Haiku is a form of poetry from ancient Japanese culture. Haiku is limited to 17 syllables, that is, three lines of 5-7-5 syllables each. The sights and sounds of winter, cookies and treats, and holiday traditions make great subjects for Holiday Haikus.
