Violin Lessons in Austin, Tx

Best Places to Get Your Child Lessons

The ability to play music is a wonderful talent to have. If you are considering starting your child on an instrument, I recommend you do it as young as possible. That way they have the chance to hone their craft for many years. One popular instrument to start your child on is the violin. If you are starting out with lessons there are many schools to try to see which works the best for your child.

You could try the Austin Academy of Music, which has two locations; one in Pflugerville and the other in Austin off of Anderson Mill Road. They offer private lessons as well with prices ranging from $94-$188 per month depending on how long you want the lessons to last (time increments are 30-45 minutes or one hour). This school offers instruments for the children while at the school, but they make a point of stating that they do not offer instruments for the children to take home so in order to keep up with practicing at home you will have to buy them their own instrument. One drawback to this choice is that there are only two teachers who teach the violin (and only one of them goes to both locations) so it may be hard to get your child in as the two teachers are probably in high demand.

You could also try the Orpheus Academy for Music which in addition to lessons can help your children be more well rounded as they offer lessons in music theory. They also offer lessons with groups (such as quartets) so the children can learn how to play in a group and this helps their listening ear. Their prices are a little pricey with prices from $150-$220 for actual private music lessons but as stated beforehand they also help the children become extremely well rounded when it comes to music. They don't just "train" them where to put their fingers; they have lessons that deal with intonation and music theory. This is probably one of the better choices if you would like your child to perhaps have a career in music and/or if they tell you themselves. If you think your child is like that definitely do this so when they get to college as music major it is not such a shock to learn music theory.

Then there is the Georgetown Music Academy. Like Orpheus they focus more on than just teaching how to play (the website states that some of the students are also interested in composing music as well as playing it). Music lessons are given in thirty-minute increments with the price at $86 (there is an option to extend the lessons to either forty-five minutes or an hour and the price will increase accordingly). There is no yearly registration fee and there is even a yearly recital to showcase all the talents that the children have honed throughout the year (it is optional though). Like Orpheus this is probably one of the better choices should your child want to have a career in music as they teach the lessons that last a lifetime.

There is also the option of having a private teacher that you go to once a week. Stores like Violins, Etc and Blackerby Violin Shop will usually have a bulletin board where you can find the cards and fliers for musicians offering private lessons and they have their own prices depending on their level of expertise and what exactly they offer. As an added bonus these are also two good places to consider buying your child's instrument. When I played the viola I did most of my business with Violins, Etc and have nothing but good things to say about them. They work with you if you can't afford buying an instrument right out and they can also order anything you need. With whatever option you go with, rest assured that starting your child off in music is something that will help them for the rest of their life.
