Viral Infections Could Be Treated Using Alternative Remedies

Virginia Gaces
The selection of alternative treatment for viruses is becoming popular nowadays and is being encouraged as more and more bacteria are developing resistance to antibiotics. This is because of several reasons and one of them is the usage of drugs even when the condition does not warrant it, (like administering a strong antibiotic to a mild infection), so that when the person gets a really serious infection, the antibiotic will no longer be effective as it should be. Alternative treatment; therefore, for viral based infections is accepted.

Virus infections have no cure as a substance has yet to be discovered that could act against a virus' impenetrable interior. The underlying side effects though of the viral infection are often prevented by doctors through the administration of drugs that would treat the side effects: like antibiotic for a possible bacterial infection, decongestant- for nasal congestion, anti-pruritic creams for itching, analgesics for fever, and many more.

The virus itself though is not being acted upon as they are non-treatable and the conditions they cause are usually self-limiting. This fact should be known to the patient so that when alternative treatment is given, they would be able to understand.

What are alternative methods could be adapted? The following are methods that could be utilized for viral based infections:

1.
Colds and sore throat

Alternative treatments

1.1.
Hot lemon juice can be taken in. Lemon juice have been useful against sore, colds and cough because of the presence of Vitamin C and essential minerals that shortens the duration of the condition. Lime juice could also be made as a substitute for lemon juice.

1.2.
Ginger could also be grinded boiled and the supernatant could be mixed with calamansi or citrofortunella microcarpa blended with a little sugar to sweeten. The concoction will taste a little bit bitter, but this is an excellent drink for people with colds. It also soothes sore throat. The ingredients are also readily available from the market.

1.3.
Amla juice (2 teaspoons) mixed with honey could relieve colds and increase phlegm excretion. This should be taken 2 x a day.

1.4.

Alternative treatment however should be first referred to your attending physician or family doctor before using them because they may not be in congruence with on-going treatments. You must remember that other serious viral diseases like HIV/AIDS require medical consultation. Alternative treatments; however, could be considered as a support system if it conforms to the over all treatment program of the person.
