Viral Videos: Sparta, Ninja Cat, and the Star Wars Kid

Viral videos. We've all seen them, even when they hype was so high that we didn't want to watch! For information on viral videos, many websites and companies exist including The Viral Factory, which attempt to track viral videos. Videos that are viral may also be called memes, pronounced like it rhymes with means. They also include old favorite Numa Numa and the Dancing Baby. Most people have seen David Goes to Dentist, but my three favorites are The Mean Kitty Song, Ninja Cat, and The Star Wars Kid.

The Mean Kitty Song - A young man gets a cat, and names him Sparta. Sparta, though, develops a biting problem. The Mean Kitty Song was born of that problem. A video blogger did the video, which as of now has over 33 million page views- if that's not viral, I'm not sure what is! It's a music video all about the mean kitty stalking his owner. The lyrics are available at its YouTube page, which also states that Sparta has his very own YouTube channel! Watching this one will give you entertainment for a while, if you watch the videos of Sparta that come after.

Ninja Cat - She can be found everywhere online, but with 9 million views, YouTube user lowdope from Japan seems to be the originator of this special viral video, here titled "Stalking Cat." My first find was titled "Ninja Cat Comes Closer Without Moving." Lots of new videos adding different music have been made, but the original has no audio. I don't want to spoil what happens, but that cat really is a ninja. Anyone who is a cat owner got a kick out of this video, which showcases why we love our crazy cats!

The Star Wars Kid - The boy who made this video never intended it to get out, but for Star Wars fans everywhere, I think we admire his obvious love of the pop culture phenomenon. In this accidental viral video, he wields a golf ball retriever like a double sided lightsaber a la Darth Maul, and really? He's not bad. The video went crazy online in 2002, and even had its own website for a while with all the versions people made, including adding special effects and music. It ended up looking pretty awesome! Unfortunately, the boy and his family weren't so impressed. The Viral Factory, according to Wikipedia, estimates that this viral video has garnered more than 900 million times.

I'll have to check out the Ninja Cat. My sons are always checking out videos that get them laughing.
