Virgin Atlantic Airlines: My Favorite Way to Fly

Alexis Devan
When I book airfare for trips I take I often peruse several websites first to compare the best price and amount of layovers of airfares. Since these two factors are most important to me the airline I fly is usually insignificant and I am willing to try small, local airlines as well as huge reputable lines. For this reason I have flown on many different airlines domestically and internationally, but always in coach. The best airline that I have flown to date has been Virgin Airlines. I only flew Virgin once from Boston to London, round-trip (peak tourist season), but it was the best service I have found yet.

I am a vegetarian and always request the vegetarian meal/snack, however, the airline rarely ever actually has my vegetarian meal and when they do I usually have to wait double the time to actually receive it. Virgin was extremely accommodating in this regard. During the 10 hour flight from Boston to London Heathrow they played two movies and each individual passenger has their own tiny TV set on the back of the headrest in front of them. Headphones were provided free of charge. During these two showings there was approximately four or five choices of movies you could chose to watch on your individual TV monitor and you were free to flick between them at this time. For whatever reason, the entertainment on the way back to Boston was much more diverse and comprehensive. This may be because my flight to London was an overnight flight. On the way home we each had our own TV's again but this time we had TV shows, movies, and video games that we could watch throughout the entire flight at any time. We could pause, rewind, and fast forward movies at our own discretion. This alone is what really won me over with Virgin. It was 2004 and the first time I had ever encountered this type of in-flight entertainment.

On each flight the stewardess gave us little individual cases that included slipper socks, headphones, a toothbrush and other useful amenities. I still have the yellow slipper socks to this day. In regard to the stewards, to this day I have noted that the females on virgin Atlantic had to be the best looking I have seen. (There were defiantly more females than males). I do not believe there was one bad looking woman working on that flight. They were pleasant, accommodating, and professional. On the flight home I requested with my two friends that we all be seated together and this was accommodated very easily at check-in without any issue.

I would absolutely fly Virgin Atlantic again given the chance and would recommend their services to anyone who asks.
