Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go MiFi and Prepaid Internet; I Love It
Good Bye Contracts and Expensive Internet. Hello Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go
Customers who are interested in the Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go have two hardware choices. Each one comes with different features.
Users who want to run only one computer at a time may find the Ovation MC760 perfect for their needs. This small unit is about the same size as your average flash drive. It easily fits into a USB port and can be used on either a PC or a laptop. At $79.99 this plug and play device will fit most budgets.
The other hardware option offered by Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go is the delightful MiFi 2200. It comes with a charger cable, battery and cloth cover.
You may recall that the MiFi 2200 captured my attention back in September 2009. That's when I wrote the article Review of MiFi 2200 by Verizon Wireless. The only difference I can tell is that the unit from Virgin Mobile has a silver colored casing where the unit for Verizon had a black casing. Except for the monthly service pricing everything else is the same.
At $149.99 the MiFi 2200 definitely costs more than the Ovation MC760. It also has several advantages over the Ovation MC760 that makes the cost difference worthwhile.
For starters, the MiFi 2200 from Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go will run up to five wireless devices where the Ovation MC760 will run only one. This makes it more practical for a family or study group to use.
With the MiFi 2200 one person can use their PDA and another can check their email while a third person can stream music or watch YouTube videos. While this is going on you will still be able to use two other wireless devices on the internet.
Stealth is another reason why I like this piece of hardware. Reach into your purse or backpack and turn the unit on. Take out your computer and quietly surf the net like you would anywhere else. This makes it useful for public busses and subway systems, hotels and as a back-up when you're bumped off the coffee shop network.
There is nothing dangling from the side of your laptop. You don't have to worry about accidentally bumping into anything that might knock the device out of the port. Close the laptop like you normally would. As you slide your computer into your backpack reach in and turn off the MiFi 2200 from Virgin Moble Broadband2Go. (Or alternately, leave it on and turn the unit off later).
With a MiFi 2200 there's not fumbling for the USB unit, looking for the cap and putting it away before you shut your computer down. In the time that you are putting everything where it goes you can miss your subway stop or exit with an armload of electronics that you're still trying to put away.
Monthly service is another reason that I love the Virgin Moble Broadband2Go MiFi 2200.
Virgin Mobile uses Sprint towers which almost always mean good quality service. So far, I've used the MiFi 2200 in a medium sized city, in rural areas and on the edge of the Appalachian Mountains. The service and connectivity have not failed me. The signal has consistently been strong. There have been no problems staying connected.
Customers can choose from two different service plans. Neither plan requires a contract. You don't have to pay for service that you aren't going to use.
The $10 Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go service plan buys you 10 days of internet use or 100 MG. (Whichever comes first.) This gives you about 5 hours of surfing time or lets you send about 10,000 emails without attachments.
It's idea for people who want to stay connected for a few days. Travelers who want to avoid high cost internet fees at hotels will enjoy this service. It may also be ideal for those on business or making presentations where internet access is unavailable.
Personally, I am an internet power user. My computer, camera and everything digital that I need is always within reach.
The ideal service for me is the Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go unlimited plan. It's only $40 per month with no limit on the amount of bandwidth used. The service expires every 30 days. That's a $20 per month difference over the Verizon Wireless price of $59.99 for only 5GB per month.
Like the phones, Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go is a prepaid plan. Decide which plan you need and buy the corresponding top-up card. (Call Virgin Mobile or renew your service online if you want to pay by credit card.) The system will walk you through the prompts.
Monthly users can also allow Virgin Mobile to automatically debit their account just as you would with any other wireless provider. The difference with Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go is that you are getting the same quality service offered by other providers at a fraction of the cost.
All this adds up to why I love my Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go MiFi and $40 Unlimited Internet and I think you will too.

Post a CommentHi Gertrude,
What a terrible experience. I'm glad that nothing like that has happened to me with Virgin Mobile. Good luck getting it all sorted out.
Be very careful and research the customer service and support history of Virgin Mobile. When the device and software works it is great. However if it doesn't the technical support for Broadband2Go isn't just bad it is something out of a Franz Kafka novel, the theatre of the absurd and Monty Python. It is clear that call center employees are not well trained, they have few resources, no authority and are discouraged from transfering your call to a supervisor, upper management. No one is accountable. Virgin Mobile suspended my service because of a clerical error on their part. Something simple that is forgiveable and should be easy to correct. However, that error has created a cascade of more errors. After 10 phone calls over 2 weeks and numerous promises by operators in the call centers it appears to be technologically impossible to restore the service that they accidently cancelled. How can you stay in business with such a craven and cynical business model? Since when is it a good idea
Sounds a bit technical for me, but I have a Virgin mobile phone, and I love that!
Especially if you have the 12 hour extended battery for the Virgin MiFi! http://www.evdoinfo.com/mifiextended
Thanks for the review :)
You can't beat that price!
Whoa - this seems kind of high tech to me. Not sure I'm ready for the "take it with me everywhere I go" thing. But I will tuck the info into a back-up spot in my noggin for later! Thanks for sharing.
good review, I never owned a cell phone in my life but my son used to have a virgin mobile.
You are way more techy than me. Great review.
Great job on this one, Gayle!!
