Virgin Mobile Festival Tickets "Free" Out in Minutes

Though the tickets don't officially go on sale to the general public until Saturday July 24th, the presale took place on July 23rd. All you had to do to get the presale code was "Like" the Virgin Mobile Festival on Facebook. For the second year in a row, the festival will be at no cost to concertgoers.

This year they're attempting to fix some of the issues that plagued the festival last year. For one thing, scalpers were getting the free tickets and then reselling them online. So this year, the tickets are printed under your name and are non-transferrable. Surely, people will find a way to make money somehow but it won't be as easy as it was last year, which means that legitimate concert-goers will have a better shot at getting tickets.

Getting tickets is no easy feat. Despite the use of non-transferrable tickets, it doesn't look like it'll be any easier to score a pair of tickets. The presale started at 10 AM on July 23rd and though the Ticketfly website was down at the on sale time, people found a way to get directly to the tickets with the help of the Virgin Mobile Twitter and they were all snapped up in minutes. If you missed your chance the first time around, the rest of the tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday, July 24th. Though tickets are free, those who donate $5, which will go to helping homeless youths, will get a CD with a mashup of all the artists featured in this year's festival.

This year's lineup features a wide array of artists and bands. Hitting the main stages will be MIA, Ludacris, LCD Soundsystem, T.I., Joan Jett, Thievery Corporation, Pavement, Matt and Kim, The Temper Trap, Jimmy Eat World, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Yeasayer. Over at the dance forest, you can catch Chromeo, Sleigh Bells, Modeselektor, Die Antwoord, and Neon Indian.

Not without its critics, some say the line-up doesn't compare to last year's, which was headlined by Blink 182 and Weezer at the height of their comeback popularity. This year the festival is headlined by MIA, whose new album "MAYA" is being panned by critics and fans alike. But whether you love or hate the line-up, it's still free! So we might not be getting Lollapalooza's long list of awesome acts, but we're not getting the hefty price tag either. It'll definitely be the best concert you'll ever experience for free.. unless you attended last year.
