Virgin Mobile Pre-Paid Cellular: Great Service and Great Rates

Will Stape
I've been a Virgin Mobile Pre-Paid cellular user for over four years and I have only complimentary things to say about the service. Cell phone providers, despite the wide variety, can still offer up more confusion than clarity when it comes to service offerings.

In the good old days of five years ago, pre-paid was relatively new. Many people were skeptical about the performance and phone features. Essential things like proper coverage, calling extras such as call waiting, three way calling or voice mail were mostly for the billed service plans. Nowadays, mostly all the pre-paid service providers match feature for feature, so there are no worries there.

How does Virgin Mobile Cellular match-up? I've used the billed plans as well - AT&T and Verizon - and both of them provided good coverage and features. The difference? The price of course. Virgin Mobile has many plans to suit any budget. I use the pay as you go minute by minute. I simply don't use my cell phone as often as others and I find that just paying minute by minute is the way to go for me. Text message is available and costs 10 cents per text or a flat rate plan for monthly usage.

We all hate bills. With Virgin Mobile Pre-paid cellular, it's one less bill to worry about.

Coverage

Honestly, the rare problems I've had with coverage can be counted on one hand. Certainly there are times when I don't have all bars, but I'd say most of the time I have most bars. Roaming has also been exemplary. I'm not a big traveler, but when I went on a business trip to Los Angeles, California a few years back, my coverage and clarity was as good or better than I've experienced at home.

Phones

As with most plans, you have many models and styles to choose from. I use the Kyocera K10 Royale - a very basic model, but it has something I've yet to see in any really expensive phone - a flashlight. It's a very powerful flashlight and I've used it on more than one occasion. So for that feature alone, this phone is a pleasant surprise. The price can't be beat: You can buy this in places like Target for under 30 dollars.

Virgin Mobile cellular remains one of the most affordable and feature packed pay as you go cellular service providers. I recommend them highly.
