The Hokies are the lower ranked team in tonight's game, but they are thought to have the home field advantage in Maryland. Although a lot has been made about Boise State playing a BCS elimination game, the Hokies' own national championship goals are on the line as well.
If the Hokies win, the Virginia Tech football schedule 2010 will become more important to the BCS picture. No ACC team has contended for the title in a while, so the Hokies are the best hope for the conference to get credibility back.
After Boise State, the Hokies return to their own home to face James Madison and East Carolina. On September 25, the Virginia Tech football schedule 2010 starts in the ACC, as they visit Boston College. In October, the Hokies go to N.C. State, then have three straight home games against Central Michigan, Wake Forest and Duke.
In November, the Virginia Tech football schedule 2010 enters crunch time, with four straight ACC showdowns. The Hokies face co-ACC favorite Georgia Tech at home on Thursday, November 4, then visit North Carolina on November 13. The next week, the Coastal Division title may be at stake, as the Hokies visit Miami. To wrap it up, they close things at home with their annual showdown against Virginia.
By then, the Hokies hope to play for their third ACC championship in four years. However, despite their conference titles, they haven't been in the national title picture for over a decade. Frank Beamer hopes to turn that around this year, although that likely can't happen without a win tonight.
Virginia Tech football may not have a lot of support among anti-BCS fans, although the pro-Hokie crowd at FedEx Field should make up for it. But although they might be the accidental villains tonight, they are technically bigger Cinderellas in the BCS picture. Everyone will expect the Broncos to reach the title game with a win, but if the Hokies prevail, they still have a lot of work to do.
The Virginia Tech football schedule begins tonight at 8 pm est on ESPN, as the Hokies and Broncos hold the first "Game Of The Year" in 2010.
