The mandala consist of 84,000 blocks, or they refer to them as grains. You can adopt as many grains as you'd like, but the minimum requirement is 3 rains. Each grain cost $20. The reason 1 grain can't be purchased is it may be too hard to click on just 1 grain. If you really want to own a single grain, there is always the option of clubbing together with your friends/family/colleagues and adopting the minimum 3 grains.
Once you adopt a grain an image of your choice will be placed in a space provided by the Bodhi Mandala site. When people run their mouse over the picture a message will appear. It is suggested that the message be positive to greet visitors or offer inspiration. The message must be 200 characters long or less.
The purpose of this project is to promote love, peace and hope. "A living, breathing mandala of spirituality in the most beautiful sense is what we intend to achieve," states the Buddhist Mandala website. The mandala is to be a vibrant project, emanating positive emotions, and raising money for charity.
When you make a donation to adopt the mandala grains, part of the contribution will be used to support selected charities, noble minded groups, and Sangha members. This Buddhist Mandala project supports many organizations including the campaign against female genital mutilation in Africa, Dharma aid in Cambodia, Eshelter for South Korea, Kashi Hospice supporting people with HIV/Aids in Malaysia, and many others. All of the charities can be seen on the Buddhist Mandala website. Each charity is to receive at least 5,000 each.
The Buddhist Mandala project was created by Lim Kooi Fong, founder and publisher of the Buddhist Channel and Oliver Georgi, the brain behind one of the world's best Content Management System, PHPWCMS. The Buddist Channel is one of the world's only media outlets for Buddhist news.
The Bodhi mandala will be dismantled by the end of the year because a core teaching of Buddhism is that everything is impermanent.

Don't hesitate to help the Buddhist Mandala complete their picture! Not just the virtual picture, but also the picture of a better world!
