Everyone needs a place to call home, even celebrities. From mountainside mansions to beach-front palaces, a celebrity home is often more than just a house; a celebrity home is a statement of success, power and wealth.

Judging from the homes of these famous comedians, laughter may not be the best medicine, but it sure covers a hefty house payment.

Jim Carrey
A Canadian by birth, Jim Carrey began performing stand-up comedy as a teenager in local clubs in Toronto and Ontario. In the early 1980's, he moved to Los Angeles and began performing at The Comedy Store. Rodney Dangerfield caught one of his performances and liked Carrey so much that he signed him up to open Dangerfield's tour. Later, Carrey would audition for the 1980-81 Saturday Night Live cast but was not accepted. Carrey moved on to be a cast member on In Living Color, and from there to films such as Ace Ventura, The Mask and many others. Carrey was the first comedian to make $20 million a film. Carrey's house reflects his numerous multi-million dollar paydays.

Jay Leno
Host of The Tonight Show and avid car collector. Leno has not been without criticism from fellow late night entertainers and other comedians. But whenever the heat gets too much he can always retreat to his lovely house.

Whoopi Goldberg
Actress, comedienne, DJ and author, Whoopi Goldberg is one of the few celebrities to earn an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award. Her home is a modest reflection of her truly stellar success.

Bill Murray
Bill Murray catapulted to fame as on Saturday Night Live. He was not one of the original members, but came on as a replacement for Chevy Chase. Murray followed up with such comedy classics as Caddyshack, Stripes and Ghostbusters. Murray owns houses in Mew York, Charleston, SC and Los Angeles.

Eddie Murphy
In the 1980's no comedian on Earth was hotter than Eddie Murphy. Following a hugely-successful stint on Saturday Night Live, Murphy scored a series of back-to-back hits with 48 Hrs, Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. The '90s were less kind to Murphy, but he rebounded with a reworked family-friendly image. With films grossing more than Tom Hanks, Murphy's house is everything you'd expect from a major star.

Chevy Chase
The first of the stars created by Saturday Night Live to leave the show, Chevy Chase was the hottest name in comedy during the late '70s. With movie roles in Caddyshack and the popular Vacation series, Chase continued his success well into the 1980s and beyond. I'm still trying to picture his mansion with Christmas lights.

Cedric the Entertainer
Cedric the Entertainer began his show biz career in stand-up, and in 1992 he made his TV debut on It's Showtime at the Apollo. Cedric then branched out into acting, appearing on TV sitcoms and then movies such as, Big Momma's House, Barbershop and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Billy Crystal
Crystal studied Film and Television direction at NYU under Martin Scorsese, but his big break came portraying Jodie Dallas on the short-lived ABC sitcom, Soap. Crystal would then move on to Saturday Night Live and hit movies such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and Analyze This among many others. You can describe Billy Crystals house in three words - you look mahvelous.

Robin Williams
Voted "Least Likely to Succeed" in high school, Robin Williams has been making America laugh for three decades. Robin William's show business career began at Julliard, where he and fellow classmate Christopher Reeve were the one two incoming freshmen selected into the school's Advanced Program under John Houseman. Reeve and Williams remained life-long friends after that.

Steve Carrell
After a series of hit and miss sitcoms and comedy sketch shows, Carrell finally scored big with NBC's The Office. Although, The Office opened to poor ratings, NBC stuck with it due to the expected success of Carrell's movie, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Carrell recently sold his old house in Studio City at 4146 Farmdale Ave, and moved into these new digs.

Cheech Marin
As half of Cheech and Chong, Cheech Marin performed in a number of movies and comedy albums during the high times of the 1970s and early 80's. He met Tommy Chong in Vancouver, British Columbia during the late '60s. Cheech would go on to star in many more films after he and Tommy Chong broke up their act.

Martin Lawrence
As a teenager, it looked like Martin Lawrence might become a boxer. Fortunately he chose another form of entertainment. Lawrence moved to California and won a spot as a contestant on Star Search. He didn't win, but a studio exec saw his performance and offered him a role on the sitcom What's Happening Now! that ultimately led to Lawrence serving as host of Def Comedy Jam on HBO. Lawrence then starred in his own sitcom, Martin, that ran from 1992 - 1997.

David Spade
Yet another Saturday Night Live Alum to make this list, David Spade began performing stand-up comedy after graduating with a business degree from Arizona State University. Spade left SNL and starred in a few movies that did less than spectacular box office. He returned to TV in 1997 in Just Shoot Me! And in 2005 began hosting The Showbiz Show for Comedy Central.
