You have to hand it to the Japanese, they were the first to bring us the Virtual Girlfriends and I wrote about them here. Now, they are bringing us Internet Kissing.
Reported by CNN News and Discovery News, the Japanese at the Kajimoto Laboratory at the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo have developed a prototype dubbed the "Kiss Transmission Device." The prototype portrays the feeling of a French kiss, swirling tongue and all, albeit using a plastic straw. Say what?!
The premise for developing this prototype is that so many are finding love over the Internet these days and the long distance relationships lack intimacy. This virtual kissing is supposed to close that gap. I'm sorry to say that my imagination could never embrace this concept. I guess it's just not my cup of sake.
You can watch it on Youtube here.
If this strikes you as seemingly odd, the Japanese are already working on a second prototype, one that will "replicate the sensations of breathing, saliva and taste for future models." Good grief, Charlie Brown, it sounds more like a breathalyzer than a kissing machine!
I have to admit, between the Virtual Girlfriends and now this strange virtual kissing machine; I am beginning to worry about our Japanese brothers! Are there shortages of live women in Japan? I'm beginning to wonder.
Meanwhile, some 768 Croats stood together on May 6, 2011 to create the biggest human smiley breaking the Guinness World Record. It was previously held by 551 participants in Latvia. At least these smiling folks are doing something memorable and going for a World Record.
Or, maybe they had heard about the Kissing Machine in Japan and just couldn't help themselves but smile.
You can see the Smiley Face here.
