Adams Farm in located in Wilmington, Vermont, and has been a working farm since 1865. Its motto, "Taste what Vermont is all about", is a clue to the workings of this family endeavor. This farm specializes in good things to eat, especially Vermont maple products. Homemade jams, gourmet cheese, home made fudge, maple candy, and gift baskets are some of their delicacies.

The unique feature of this family farm is the farm tour. The tours are given on an hourly basis, with a hay wagon being the mode of transportation for the participants. A member of the family serves as the guide. The autumn season is perhaps the most picturesque season to tour the farm. The vast array of trees, particularly the sugar maples, put on a colorful show. The sugar maples are the stars, since their sap provides the maple syrup that the farm is noted. It takes 35 to 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup.

The tour goes by the sugar house, which is a hub of activity in the Spring, when that sap is made into syrup.

Rare Marino sheep roam the farm and greet the tour at various stops. These are rare and a throw back to William
Charvis, who brought the sheep to the area. Chipmunks and squirrel roam the farm and often greet the visitors.
Deer often stop to see the wagon load of participants.

After the tour, the group is given something hot to drink and taken to a large farm building. They are seated and watch a display of farm activities. The audience, young and old, are active participants. Small kittens and rabbits are passed out to the audience to cuddle and pet during the presentation. Homemade soaps are passed out to be tried, made from goat milk. Baby goats are left to roam the audience. These provide a show in themselves, since they root for food in purses and bags.

An angora rabbit is brought out. A spinning wheel is used to show the artistry of making rabbit fur into yarn. The farm sells their own yarn, made by hair of the various animals.

One of the audience is chosen to milk the goat. Usually, among peals of laughter, this is a picture taking moment. There are samples of food, made at the farm, passed out during the presentation.

The farm products are available on line. In the Winter months, when snow blankets the Wilmington, Vermont, area sleigh rides are offered, along with the farm presentation.

Adams Farm is a great place to visit, shop, and tour for the entire family. For more information about this attraction, their web site http://adamsfamilyfarm.com is a good place to start.
