Head to the Island of Rum for Good Times and Great Sand

If you and your family are looking for a little bit of British flavor to go along with your Caribbean vacation, then the choice should be pretty easy. While each island offers its own version of the Caribbean vacation experience, Barbados is the island with the most British influence by a long shot. Because Barbados spent 400 years of unadulterated colonization under British rule, there is quite bit of continuity when it comes to how things run on the island. Whether you're hanging out at the beach or dining in a restaurant, the British influence should be strong everywhere you go on this island.

Like most other Caribbean islands, Barbados has a huge beach culture to go along with its British influence. The beaches are all public on this island and travelers will find that easy access from the road saves them the time and effort of having to pass over resort property in order to find the sand. When they do find that sand, tourists will see that it is of the pure white variety. To go along with the sugar cane sand, the island has clear blue water that would rival any island in the area.

Barclays Park on the east coast of the island is one of the top beaches for tourists to visit. This beach isn't one where travelers should take their children for a serious swim because of the highly erratic tidal patterns. Still, it does offer enough swallow water to make for decent swimming if you find the right spots. This is a great beach for family picnics, though, as sheltered tables line the beach front.

On the south coast of the island, travelers will find Accra Beach, which is near the Accra Resort on the coast line. This is probably the most popular tourist beach in the area for a number of reasons. The decent swimming combined with a fair amount of water sports capability makes it a draw for a wide range of people. Commerce has taken to the beach, as well, and travelers will find hotels, restaurants and a number of other shops near this beach.

In addition to its beaches, Barbados has long been known as the home of rum. As such, you can bet that there are many fantastic places to get a mixed drink with good indigenous rum. If you're up for it, find the rum distillery at Mount Gay, which will give a good look into the business and how the liquid is produced.

Barbados is a great island for all travelers who love the beach. The British culture will make just about everyone feel at home and at ease. If you want to experience excellent rum, this is your spot, as well.
