Cascade, CO 80809
United States of America
The day begins with a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, and coffee. In exchange for a donation that supports the Cascade Fire Department, guests get food cooked by the firefighters themselves, who often dress up as clowns. For little children, this part of the day is especially fun, since they can often find a friendly clown willing to make them a balloon animal or show them each piece of gear that a firefighter uses.
After breakfast, guests gather along the main street to watch the parade, a procession which features the fire department and sheriff, as well as several horseback riders. Others represent community organizations or wear costumes. This parade is a great chance to cheer for some hard working public employees and maybe catch a few pieces of the hard candy that parade members throw to the crowd. Guests can also enjoy cheering all of the cowboys and cowgirls who come out in the finest duds to practice their riding for an appreciative audience. Most people can even join the parade if they wish!
Next, guests can look at one of the many stalls in the area that feature local arts and crafts. Artisans offer hand-crafted rocking chairs, jewelry, and quilts, while others offer gorgeous drawings and paintings. Many of the artisans will also make custom items if you want a particular kind of local handicraft made specifically for you. This festival is a great place to find a gift for a loved one or find furnishings for a mountain cabin.
Finally, guests can stop by the Mucky Duck to have a cool drink and a dessert before heading home. Those looking for something a bit more substantial can by a brat or a hotdog, along with a cool soda. While they munch, they can sit at one of the many picnic tables or benches that dot the area. Guests can also check out the city's table, which provides booklets relating the history of the community and surrounding areas, with specific focus on its native American heritage
If you plan to be in town, you should certainly consider a visit to this fun festival.
