Visit Christmas Town USA in McAdenville, North Carolina

If ever there was a small southern town that took Christmas spirit to new heights, McAdenville is it.

Each year McAdenville, North Carolina dons one of the most celebrated and massive displays of holiday cheer known in the world today.

Over the 55 years that the town has been undertaking this annual homage to the holidays, it has been featured on "ABC's Good Morning America", "HGTV", "MSNBC" and the "Montel Williams Show."

2010 Annual Lighting and Yule Log Parade Details

On December 1st,2010 at the "Pharr Family YMCA" the annual lighting ceremony will begin promptly at 4:30 pm.

Then at 5:30 pm, accompanied by a local elementary school child, the event organizers will pull the switch and flood the little town on McAdenville with the twinkling glow of more than 450,000 holiday lights.

In addition to the pulling of the switch the town will host its annual "Yule Log Parade." During the "Yule Log Parade" children of all ages will assist in pulling a Yule log laden sled to the "Pharr Family YMCA" where the log will be ceremoniously placed in the center's fireplace and lit.

Afterward, there will be a much anticipated visit from Santa Claus and some old-fashioned caroling.

Once the lights are initially lit the display will remain up and illuminated through December 26^th, 2010.

Visitors should note that this is an annual event that always begins on December 1^st.

Holiday Lights Display Highlights

If there was any doubt to the sheer magnitude of McAdenville's holiday lights display all one would have to do to allay those doubts would be to turn to the numbers.

The "Christmas Town USA" display consists of over 375 Christmas trees of varying heights. The smallest trees are 6 feet tall with the largest trees being in the 90 foot range. Each tree is painstakingly decorated with anywhere from 500 to 5,000 lights.

The trees are carefully placed throughout the town with 33 of the larger trees embracing the circumference of the town's lake.

The lake itself contains a lighted fountain that sprays 75 feet into the air and a 46 wide lighted portrayal of "Old Man Winter" busily blowing in the winter season.

On top of the lighted holiday trees, fountain lights and water front holiday lights displays there are over 200 holiday wreaths and a 9 foot tall and 70 foot long lighted Santa and Reindeer display.

Over all the holiday lights and festive finery the town also boasts a 30 foot tall series of chrono- chime bells that sends beloved Christmas carols reverberating throughout the town all month long.

Part of "Christmas Town USA's" charm also lays in the area's holiday bejeweled homes.

On December 5^th, 2010 between the hours of 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm residents and visitors alike can partake of a self-guided walking tour of 5 area homes as well as the McAdenville Methodist Church.

Advance tickets to McAdenville's "Holiday Tour of Homes" are $12.00 per person. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $15.00 per person. The ticket price includes admission to the church, a walk through 5 homes and light refreshments served post tour at the "Pharr Family YMCA Center."
