Cresson, PA 16630
United States of America
Our little town has some very interesting facts about it. One is that the world famous Admiral Robert Peary was born here. He is believed to have been the first man to find the North Pole. They have a nice park here in his honor with a monument of him and one of his dogs. Matter of fact, 2009 is the 100th anniversary of when this moment in history took place. Funny what a small world it can be at times.
Cresson is a quaint little town with it's mom and pop store, restaurants and two bed and breakfast inns. There is a Sportsman Club with a nice small lake they stock for fishing. I take my grandsons there quite a bit. We also visit the large Veterans Park and playground where they can run forever and find lots to play on. The park also has a beautiful gazebo.
The two restaurants are along Rt 53. The one, Cresson Springs has a lot of memories of Cresson from the past. It's so interesting to sit and look at the old pictures and memorabilia through out the restaurant. The other restaurant is actually named The Rt 53 Diner and when you enter you feel like you've stepped into the 50's. They are both a joy to visit, serve great food and delicious desserts.
There is also a cute little Country Cafe. A coffee shop where you can enjoy your beverage and shop through many kinds of primitive crafts.
The Cresson House Bed and Breakfast sits right off old route 22. There is also The Station Inn Bed and Breakfast which sets along the railroad tracks that run through town. The Summit County Club named after the summit or top of the mountain is has the local golf course along with the club house where reunions and parties are held.
Cresson is also the home of St Aloysius College and St Francis College is only a few miles from here in Loretto PA. That will be another and interesting story. The Schwab Estates are also another attraction in Loretto. Especially beautiful in the summer and free to visit. The priest of St. Francis live in the estate but the grounds are kept for the public. Nearby is the Cresson Lake Playhouse where live shows are very popular.
My granddaughter acted in Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
Right above at the Cresson Summit is the Lemon House and where the Allegheny Portage Railroad had started. It's now a national park, very educational and also interesting to me. As a young woman my grandmother had worked in the Lemon house in the early 1900s. I find that so interesting when I toured the building and imagined her cooking meals or cleaning rooms.
The history in these small towns always amazes me. They all link together through the railroad and coal mining among other things.

Post a CommentHas to be a nice place.....it is in PA!! LOL
Sounds just like a place I would love great article.
;-);-)SOUNDS GREAT!
Sounds nice - the only part of PA we see is 81 North to Harrisburg to 78 east to NJ....and how I hate that 78! Once we hit Cabela's I know we don't have much further on that horrible road.
Sounds like a great place!
