When you drive into the 1,535 acre park, you will be astounded by the scenery. Lush foliage surrounds you on the park's winding roads lined with beautiful trees and plants. To take full advantage of the park's scenery, the park provides hiking trails for visitors and recently added a 10 mile overnight hiking trail.
In addition to hiking, there are plenty of other activities to entertain you. You can rent rowboats, paddleboats, and canoes on the park's Lake Byrd. There is also an Olympic size pool, a volleyball court, a basketball court, shuffleboard, and tennis courts. For golf enthusiasts, the park is the home of Jack Nicklaus' Bear Trace golf course. Cumberland Mountain State Park has an activity to please every member in your party.
Camping is a popular activity in the park and Cumberland Mountain provides campers with 142 campsites that include hookups for electric and water. 37 cabins are also available to guests complete with modern amenities and include cooking supplies.
While you're visiting Cumberland Mountain State Park, there are several options for dining. You can bring your own provisions and set up at one of the many picnic tables located in the park. Grills are also available if you prefer to barbecue. In addition to the outdoor dining, the park boosts a large restaurant overlooking Lake Byrd. The charming restaurant serves Southern style food and is open for two meals a day.
If you still can't find something to entertain you, the park offers programs for its visitors to enjoy. You and your family can partake in guided tours with a naturalist or participate in campfire programs and arts and crafts.
Be careful of ticks in the park during the summer months and bring plenty of water if you are hiking as it does get warm in Tennessee in the summertime. Cumberland Mountain State Park is open 8-8 during the summer and 8-4:30 in the winter.
Whatever you do in the park, the natural beauty and serenity will captivate you. Cumberland Mountain State Park is one place on the map that should not be missed.
