Visit Dr. Evermor's Art Park Near the Madison/Baraboo Region in Wisconsin
This Hidden Gem is Worth Seeking Out!
Baraboo, WI 53913
United States of America
For years we knew about these fabulous sculptures on highway 12 in Wisconsin. Between Madison and Baraboo these scrap metal sculptures take up residence right alongside the busy highway. We'd stopped before to admire them thinking that there has to be more, but all we saw was a gate marked "Private Property" Well, two weeks ago we finally stopped again. This time we found the actual park, and what we had been missing all along.
Dr. Evermor is one brilliant man. He has to be to see art in these pieces of scrap metals. Would you think to make a bird feather out of a dull knife blade? Dr. Evermor did, and boy is it a stunner. The sculptures by the front of the road are nothing compared to what awaits you inside.
Inside is a family's art heaven. I know, I know, many men and kids just can't seem to appreciate art, can they? I know that my son and husband typically are not too keen on it. Though this art park had the three of us intrigued. It's manly art. Made of soddering and tools. You got the male vote there. You probably have the children's vote as well, and well, us women will be equally as fascinated.
The Forevertron sculpture has garnered the title of being the world's largest scrap metal sculpture and is recorded in the pages of the Guinness Book Of World Records. You can see it in all of it's glory in the middle of the park. To attempt photograph it would take no less than five photos.
I'd allow at least an hour to go through the park. It's not all that huge, but if you are like us you will want to really take your time to look over the sculptures and pick out the things they are made out of. You will be amazed. I promise you.
If you are ever near the Madison/Baraboo region please seek out this art park. You won't regret it at all. Oh, and be sure to bring plenty of film or media cards. You'll need them!
Dr. Evermor's Art Park is 100% free to roam about and explore. If you should find that the gates are closed (we found this during open hours) you can enter the art park by parking at Delaney's Surplus and by walking behind. We were told by the store's owners that this was acceptable to do. If you are coming from the direction of Baraboo, the sculptures are right after the sign for Delaney's. If you are coming from the Madison direction you'll only see the sculptures first. Should you see Delaney's or Bluffview you've gone too far!
A bit tricky to locate, indeed, but worth all the time and effort to do so.
