Visit The DuBois Center Fall Festival Oct 3-4, 2009 in Illinois
A Welcome Relief After a Long, Hot Summer
Handcrafts and Traditional Skills
The appeal is very traditional. The Fall Festival features numerous vendors of handcrafted items with some emphasis on the approaching holiday season. At the booths lined up beneath the leafy canopy, you can find such items as pillows, puppets, yard signs, quilts, candles, and much more. It takes awhile just to walk the grounds and see all that is available.
There are always demonstrators of traditional crafts. Most years the event features, for example, a blacksmith showing how one of a community's most important craftsmen worked. Or you'll find a lady spinning raw wool into yarn.
Food and Music
There's no shortage of food, with pork steak dinners, caramel popcorn, sods, a fund-raising pie and dessert sale, as well as other foods and snacks.
Festival-goers can also enjoy the musical entertainment provided throughout the day at the main stage near the food court, both solo performers and groups like the Venedy Band. Children will be able to amuse themselves at the Kid's Korner which is aimed at them, offering such hands- on activities as candle making.
In Addition....
The Fall Festival includes an antique tractor show and an indoor quilt show. There are also boat rides on the DuBois Center pond, horseback riding, and hayrides available.
Parking, Admission Free
Parking and admission to the grounds are both free. Free rides are provided to and from the parking area. Hours are 10:30am to 5pm daily both Saturday and Sunday.
The DuBois Center is located 1-1/2 miles east of Illinois Route 5, just north of DuBois.
The DuBois Center is a ministry of the Illinois South Conference of the United Church of Christ. A sign is posted at the turn-off on US 51.
The DuBois Center website is located at http://www.duboiscenter.org/. For information, you can also call 618-787-2202 or email duboiscenter@iscucc.org.
