Valentown New York was one man's dream. It was not a town actually, it was one building built on private land in the town of Victor. One of the residents Levi Valentine had an idea The railroad was coming and he dreamed of a place where the train passengers, as well as the town could come and shop for anything they wanted. He built a large three story building meant to house different types of stores, like a shopping plaza, get all your shopping done in one place. Great idea. If Levi has lived fifty years after he got his idea in 1876, he probably would have had shopping malls all over the county. Who knows, maybe his project was the inspiration for the first shopping mall. Unfortunately, the railroad never made it that far and Levi's dream never materialized.

Vakentowm , New York, has been made a museum and you can come and visit, but be warned, there have been sightings and you can come and join in a ghost hunt. Don't believe me? Take a look at what others have discovered when they chose to spend the night. http://www.wnyparanormal.org/e107/news.php?extend.53 Who knows, maybe Levi never left after all and he is still hoping to open up his dream. Come on a Saturday night in Summer and find out for yourself

Love Canal, New York is probably one of the most famous of the ghost towns. It is a modern day one, a town that was killed by modern technology. It would have been a perfect site for a town, except for the fact that it was build on top of a toxic waste site. The first houses were built in the 1950's and by 1978 there were so many still born births and birth defects and diseases causes by the toxic waste, that the town had to be abandoned. There has been an ongoing cleanup program and today part of the development is being re settled again, but for those families who were forced to re locate, the memory of Love Canal will be the memory of a nightmare. Come in the summer.

Way up north in the Adirondack Mountains, not far from the Canadian Border there used to be a town called Tahawus, New York It was also called Adirondack. It was in the days when iron mining was a bid industry in the North Country. The early1800's to be exact. Unfortunately, the ore was not pure enough, containing too much titanium, so the mines and the town were abandoned until WW II came along and the Army needed Titanium in huge amounts. The mine stayed in operation until 1982. The modern buildings were torn down, but the older ones remain and you can walk the streets in the summer today and see the miners life of the early 1800's. And appreciate the strength and determination of these early settlers whose decedents still live and work in the area. You can go to Adirondack State Park, New York and see a museum dedicated to the town of Tahawus, New York.
