The capital city of India, Delhi is full of sight seeing places. Most of such sight seeing places are historical in nature, made during the time of the Mogul Kingdom. I have seen almost all the site seeing places of Delhi in great details as I have stayed at this beautiful city of Delhi for around 2 years. One of the most vital places that must be visited during your trip to Delhi is Juma Masjid. This Masjid is the praying place for the Muslims staying in old Delhi area. This mosque is said to be the biggest mosque of the world. It can accommodate 25000 people at a time for namaz. Most of the tourists visiting Delhi make sure to visit this historical monument without fail.

Delhi is connected from all the major cities of India by air, rail, and the bus service. The famous Juma Masjid is situated opposite to the red fort in old Delhi. The Mogul emperor Shahjahan, who also built famous Taj Mahal, has built this mosque in sixteenth century. This mosque is 200 feet long, 220 feet wide, and 135 feet high. It is built from white and the red marble. Its top summit is made up of black marble. There is one large platform here to size of around 5000 square feet, which is made from one single stone. The Muslims come here five times a day for their namaz. It took 14 years to built this mosque. The mosque has three main gates and three top summits above each of these main gates. The architecture of this mosque is really unique and the famous engineers and the architects visit this monument from all over the world to see and study its design and glory. The main priest of this mosque sees the moon from the terrace of this mosque and announcement is made thereafter to celebrate Idd festival on the next day after the holy month of Ramzan. The mosque remains open on all days and can be visited at any time before 5 pm. The tourists can climb up to the terrace of the mosque to see the view of old Delhi. Regular Muslim prayers (Namaz) are performed here every day for five times as specified in the Muslim religion in the presence of main priest.

The mosque has a beautiful mike/speakers arrangement. The main Imam of the mosque starts the prayer from one mike and his voice reaches effectively in all the corners of the mosque with equal intensity. The holy sound of the namaz can also be heard in the area of 5 square miles all around this famous mosque. All the Mogul kings like Shahjahan, Aurangzeb, and the last Mogul emperor Bahadurshah Zafar were regularly coming to this mosque for their prayers. The best way to visit this mosque is through the city site seeing buses, which are available from almost all the corners of Delhi city. Most of such tourist buses start from Connought Place area in New Delhi in the morning at 8.30 am and completes its tour by around 6 pm in the evening. All such tourist buses invariably show this famous mosque. The fare for such luxury tourist buses is around Rs.300 ($7.0) per head for the full day tour. There are air-conditioned luxury buses also available for such site seeing at the rate of around Rs.600 ($15) per head for around 10 hours of tour of Delhi. One can also hire the taxi for this purpose. The full day hiring charges for the taxi is around Rs.1500 ($37) for a four sitter non air-conditioned car. It is advisable to use the guide services, which are available at all such monuments including this Juma Masjid. Make sure to use only government approved guide services as unauthorized guides are also moving around all such historical monuments.

I am sure that this article shall encourage all my AC readers to visit this internationally famous Juma Masjid during their next trip to Delhi in India.
