The beautiful History Plaza has paths leading to several historical structures, as well as to downtown Birmingham businesses and other locations. One of the historical structures on the Plaza route is the Allen House.

Harry Allen, the first mayor of Birmingham when it was incorporated as a city in 1933, and his wife, Marion Clizbe Allen, built this house in 1928. The house was built on what was part of the first quarter section purchased by pioneer Elijah Willits in 1818, after one of the first public schools to be built in Birmingham fell into such disrepair that the Allens could not use it as a residence, as they had originally planned to do.
