There is only one historical city in India, where three big and historical wars took place over last 600 years. This is the city of Panipat. Panipat is situated at around 56 miles from Delhi. Most of the tourists and pilgrims, who are interested in the Indian history, make sure to visit this place to see this historical and holy city of Panipat.

The visitors can reach Panipat from Delhi by hired car or taxi or by State Transport buses. It takes around 2 hours to reach Panipat from Delhi. There are many historical monuments here along with some of the famous holy temples. The three famous wars took place here at Panipat. The first war was held between Mogul King Babar and the local king Ibrahim Lodi in the year 1526. Mogul king Babar defeated Ibrahim Lodi and started the Mogul rule in India. The second war took place between Mogul King Akbar and his enemy Hemu in the year 1556. The mogul King Akbar was the winner of this war. The third war was held between Ahmedshah Durani and the Maratha rulers in the year 1765. Maratha rulers lost this war and their dream of establishing Hindu rule in India was shattered. The battlefield of all these wars is worth visiting place here at Panipat. The other monument that is to be seen here is the famous Kabul Masjid, which was built by King Babar as a celebration of his victory in the year 1526. The architecture of this masjid is really unique as it is built of red stones in a circular shape. The Satargunj gate through which the King Babar had entered the city after his victory is the next place to be seen. Most of the ayats of Kurane E Sharif are engraved on the walls of this gate. The third spot is the grave of Ibrahim Lodi. This grave is built in black Italian marble and looks very impressive. The open area in front of this grave has a very beautiful garden. The flowers from all over the world have been developed here. The local Muslims come here to perform their regular namaz, five times a day. The tourists come here from Delhi by bus, taxi, or hired car in the morning and can reach back to Delhi by late in the evening on the same day.

There are no good hotels here at Panipat for the tourists to stay as it is a small town and many tourists do not prefer to stay here for a night halt. There are couples of Dharmashalas here for the pilgrims. However, there are only basic facilities available and it may not be advisable to stay here on health and hygiene ground. It is also suggested to carry your own supply of food and the mineral drinking water as such items available here are quiet contaminated. It is considered very holy to take a bath here in the River Jamuna on no moon nights. Thousands of pilgrims visit this holy place on those days for taking a holy dip. There can be an acute shortage of the basic needs of life on such auspicious days. Hence, it is better to avoid visiting on such days. Moreover, the summer months from April to June are extremely hot and must be avoided for the visit. There is a black marble monument built here to pray for the peace of all the soldiers who lost their lives in those wars, which is known as Shahid Smarak.

Though Panipat is not amongst the famous places to visit in India, it certainly can help you to revive the memories of the Indian History of last 600 years, particularly of the three big blood sheds which took place here at Paniapt.
