One can easily reach this historical tomb by hired car or taxi service. The regular sites seeing luxury coaches also invariably take the tourists to this historical tomb. This tomb was built by Hajji Begum, the elder queen of king Humayun in the middle of the sixteenth century. The architecture of this tomb is based on the early mogul style. The low height design of the building, the four gates in all the four directions of the tomb, the shining artistic top ghumats, and the most beautiful gardens all around are the most common features of this tomb. It is made of red and white stones, which were brought from the quarries of Rajasthan. When you see this tomb, you will be pleasantly surprised to find the striking similarities of this tomb with the great Taj Mahal of Agra. Though the famous Taj was built around 100 years after this tomb, the similar features of these two monuments are really very interesting for the historians.
It is said somewhere in the mogul history that the design of famous Taj was made by taking the basic idea from this Humayun tomb. Even the height of all the gates, the diameter of top circular ghumats is exactly same as of Taj. If you look at this tomb of Humayun from some distance, you will find Taj built by red stones before your eyes. Both the wives of king Humayun were also cremated here in the grave, adjoining to king Humayun. It is built by black and yellow stones. There are three main graves here at this tomb, two of Humayun begams, and Humayun himself. There are exquisitely beautiful gardens and water fountains all around the tomb. The view of these gardens is simply breathtaking from the terrace of this tomb. This tomb's architecture is an exquisite example of the Lodhi architecture. The ayats of Qurane e Sharif are engraved on all the walls as well as the gates of the tomb. If you carry the magnifying lens with you, you will be able to see each of these ayats and interpret them all with the help of the guide services.
There are other graves also near the main graves of the king and his two queens. The grave of Humayun's barber is one of them. The grave of Isa Khan, the main builder of this tomb is also kept here. The tourists must take a complete round of this tomb to see the entire beauty of the gardens, and the water fountains. This tomb remains open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days. The government guide services are available here at the rates of Rs.100 per visit of the entire tomb. It would be better to avail the guide services here so as to learn the detailed history of each spot in this tomb. The tourists would need to walk for around 40 minutes or so to have a thorough visit of this historical monument. It would be preferable to visit this tomb with your own transport as the Delhi sites seeing luxury buses only give 10 minutes to see this lovely monument. Make sure to carry your camera and the films to shoot the sweet memories of your visit to the tomb of Humayun.
If you happen to be in Delhi during your next visit to India, make sure that you visit the tomb of Humayun to see the glory of the mogul kingdom.
