Visit Home Valley Station in Australia

A Luxurious Outback Vacation

Karen Reams
With the release of the film 'Australia" starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackson the Australian tourism board is hoping for an influx of visitors to this interesting country with its fascinating landscapes.

This movie has been described as an 'Antipodean Gone with the Wind' with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackson striding across the inhospitable Australian plains of the 1940's where they finally surrender to its heart. But for tourists this film has brought into the limelight some new and brag-worthy travel experiences that takes visitors into some rarely experienced cores of this large land.

One of these is Home Valley Station, which can be found in the Kimberly region of Northwestern Australia and is where much of the film "Australia" is centered.

After a multi million renovation this ranch cattle station reopened on July 1 and is now a sensational destination for visitors. This particular region of Western Australia boasts wide ranges, stunning gorges and dusty cracked mud flats and has often been referred to as Australia's last frontier.

The Home Valley Station is owned by the Indigenous Land Corporation and was purchased on behalf of the Balanggarra people of the east Kimberley. For those wishing to visit Home Valley Station the closest contact point for air or 4WD is Kununurra (74 miles) or Derby (400 miles).

A visit here is most certainly a great outback experience but also comes with luxury amenities when it comes to accommodation. Accommodation here starts at $190 per night and the quarters are spacious and well appointed whether you choose a stand alone hut, a safari-style eco-tent or a homestead room.

Home valley offers a variety of all-inclusive agendas, which are available during both the dry and wet season. One of these is the Bindoola Experience.

The Bindoola Experience is a 4 -day cattle-mustering exercise. This all- inclusive itinerary includes top-tier accommodations, flight transfers, all meals, entertainment and all activities including horseback riding, canoeing, hiking and swimming. This particular trip comes at the reasonable cost of $3,700pp dbl.

You can also take the trip without the cattle mustering but including all the other adventure tours for $2,950 pp dbl. As an optional extra you can take A La Carte half-day horseback rides into the outback for $95pp or for $180 take a full day and this will include lunch.

Home Valley Station spokesperson Nicolle French says. " We took care of the film crew. Everybody loved it and then we saw that we could actually make this experience available to tourists who would want this kind of vacation after seeing the movie."

So go see the movie and then have a real life outback experience.
