Kanpur is well connected by air, rail, and road from all the major cities of Uttar Pradesh. The Chakeri airport of Kanpur is made operative since the year 1996. Kanpur is also a big railway station on Delhi-Dehradun railway line. There are regular buses plying from all the major cities of Uttar Pradesh for this industrial city of Kanpur, situated on National Highway 2 and 25. Kanpur is situated 48 miles away from Luckhnow, 170 miles from Agra, and 132 miles from Jhansi. Kanpur is having many sites seeing places. Radha Krishna temple is the most famous place at Kanpur to be visited. This temple has an ideal mixture of ancient and modern architecture. It has five most beautiful statues of Lord Krishna with Radha. These statues are made of black smooth stone and look really gorgeous. The glass temple of the Jains is the next place to be seen. This complete Jain temple is made of glass and enamel and has extraordinary designs, which are simply out of this world. The designs are made and arranged in such a way that the multiple images of all the decorations can be viewed by standing at one place in the temple. The boating in the River Ganga in the evening hours at the River shore of Kanpur is the most pleasant experience of our life.
Allen Forest zoo is the next spot. This zoo was started in the year 1971. It has around 665 animals and birds kept in a nice environment of the forest. There is also a very big garden here at this zoo. The tourists can have long walks here in this garden on the walking trails. The Jajmou Mountain is situated in the Far East corner of the city. This is an ancient place, where King Yayati was said to be ruling for many years before around 4000 years. There are very old and ancient temples of Lord Siddhanath and Siddhadevi here. The grave of Muslim saint Ali Ul Hak is worth seeing here. This grave was built by the King Firozshah in the year 1724. Ganesh garden is the next place to be visited. The famous temple of lord Ganesh is situated here in this beautiful garden. Kanpur Memorial Church is the church that was built in the memory of the Britishers who lost their lives in the mutiny of 1857 for the Indian freedom. This church is one of the most vital places to visit. The garden all around this church is also breathtaking. Few silent moments of meditation here can be very relaxing.
There are some nearby excursions also available for the tourists. The first is the Nawabgunj birds Sanctuary, which is located on Kanpur- Luckhnow highway. The famous Yayawar birds come to this forest reserve from as far as Siberia in the winter months of December and January. The Bhitargaon temple of Mahalaxmi is one of the oldest temples of India. This temple is situated at around 36 miles away from Kanpur. The most famous Muktadevi temple of Musanagar is located 40 miles away from city of Kanpur. This temple is said to be made by the King Bali in the Treata Yuga before around 20000 years. The statue of Goddess Muktadevi here is the rarest piece of the stone architecture. There is a big fair held here on the full moon day of first Gujarati month of Kartak every year.
Kanpur is the city full of hotels of all types and categories. Hotel Atithi, Hotel Bliss, Hotel Deep Mayur, Hotel Geet, and the Hotel Gaurav are some of the best hotels available for all the visitors coming to Kanpur. These hotels charge around Rs.3000 ($75) for a nice double room, excluding all meals. It is advisable to book your hotel accommodation in advance so as to avoid last minute hassles and tensions.
Kanpur is the city that must be visited by all the tourists during their visit to Northern part of India. I am sure that the beautiful city of Kanpur shall not disappoint the visitors coming here.
