The Lake George Area
Lake George is surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains, and close to many popular neighboring vacation towns and attractions. To the South of Lake George, visitors can travel to Saratoga Springs, and visit the famous Saratoga Spas or Racetrack. August is prime racing season in Saratoga, and there are many special annua races and events scheduled during the month in Saratoga Springs. Albany, and the capital Region, is just slighly further.
The many Adirondack resort towns are located within driving distance from Lake George. Tranquil lakes with names like Schroon, Loon, and Pleasant Lake, are nearby. Lake Placid is located North of Lake George, within distance for a day trip. To the East of the Lake George area, lies Vermont.
The Village of Lake George is central to the lake and Fort William Henry Museum. The Lake George Public Beach and a string of shops, restaurants, and hotels line the village strip. Prices for hotels tend to be slightly higher directly on Lake George, and visitors may want to consider some of the nearby hotels, resorts, and motels that are located just outside the village. Route 9 has several motels, resorts, and camping areas.
Activities and Recreation
Lake George is a summer paradise for summer sports and recreation. The warm weather and pristine lake are the perfect atmosphere for swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, and cruising on the Lake George tour boats. Lake George stretches from the Village of Lake George to Diamond Point, Hague, and Bolton Landing. All of these towns have lake access. The upscale Sagamore Lodge is located on Lake George for guests who are looking for a luxury vacation. Many of the resorts have recreation on site.
Aside from the many outdoor actvities in the Lake George area, there are many summer festivals and events. Summer concert series, Fourth of July celebrations, and summer theater are all part of the summer events in the Lake George area. The Adirondack Theater Festival will be held in Glens Falls at the Charles R. Wood theater from June 27 through July 28, 2007.
The Great Escape and Splash Water Kingdom, a Six Flags Park, are favorite attractions for families with kids and amusement park enthusiasts. The admission price is $34.99 for adults and $24.99 for children under 48 inches in height at The Great Escape. History buffs can tour the Fort William Henry Museum in Lake George or travel to the nearby, Fort Ticonderoga, which gives a stunning view of Vermont.
