One main attraction in Lanesboro, MN is their bike trail. The Root River State Bike Trail is about 60 miles long and is a hard surface trail throughout. The trial winds through the beautiful country side passing through forests and fields. The natural area is home to many wildlife species, and is lined by 300 foot tall bluffs. There are several stops along the trail where you can purchase refreshments. In Lanesboro, there is a trail center where you can rent bikes and accessories. There is also a small repair shop that can help you if you have a need. The town is a bike friendly town and your bikes are welcome almost anywhere!
Lanesboro sits at the heart of the trail and is an amazing community. The downtown center has been completely restored and is home to many unique art boutiques, antique stores, and cafes. You can browse the shops for hours and continue to see new and unique items. Lanesboro was named one of 100 Best Small Art Towns in 1998 by author John Villani, and also one of 50 Best Outdoor Sports Towns by Sports Afield magazine. Lanesboro was even listed as one of the 20 Best Dream Towns in America by Outside magazine. All these credentials only certify the greatness of this small Minnesota town.
Lanesboro is also home to the legendary Buffalo Bill Cody, Buffalo Bill resided in Lanesboro in the mid 1800's. Buffalo Bill Days is Lanesboro's annual festival. The festival is held during the first weekend in August. The festival is home to a Grand Parade, various entertainments, food, and sports tournaments.
Lanesboro has a very rich art culture. Many artists of all kind reside in and around Lanesboro. There is a professional theatre where shows are performed often. There are several art galleries throughout the town where local artists can show off their work. Many artists have their own shops downtown where you can view and purchase their work as well.
The town is also a great place to hike, fish, and canoe. There are several campgrounds throughout the area. One great lodging place is the Old Barn Resort. There is a campground as well as an old restored barn that is used as a hostile. There is a golf course and a pool, as well as other campground activities here. The resort sits on 200 beautiful acres.
