Visit Your Local Theater for Award Winning Play Remakes of Broadway Shows

Julie Boehlke
The long winter months are slowly closing in upon us and this means we are looking for things to do to keep busy and to entertain our family with.

Sharing the love of the theater is something that I have always loved to do with my children. Experiencing the theater is an entirely different atmosphere in which you can not find anywhere else.

While so many children have already watched movies on television or at the Movie Theater, seeing a Broadway play bring their favorite characters to life, is an experience they will never forget.

Although some of the large stage shows that line Broadway in New York are once in a lifetime events sure not to be missed, a visit to your local opera house or theater is a great way to share the love of a great Broadway show remake without the pricey ticket. Whether your family is on a budget or you just want to introduce your child to plays and musicals, you are sure to find a broad spectrum of play genres right in your own town.

Here in Adrian, Michigan, we stake claim to one of the oldest Opera Houses around, the Croswell Opera House. The Croswell like many other small town Theaters, is set up to meet the needs of just a few hundred people. This allows visitors to really feel the full effect of what the show has to offer.

The Croswell like many small town theaters, allows you have a better of chance of being able to go back stage and visit the cast for an autograph session. To many children, this is a real treat. Many times you are also able to tour the back area of the stage and see first hand how these performances come together.

Peter Pan recently took the stage here at the Croswell in Adrian, Michigan. The cast made the Disney movie come to life with music and familiar antics just as if Peter Pan and Wendy were real and not make believe. If you were to go to Disney Studios or even to other Broadway shows of Peter Pan you would be paying a hefty price tag just to be able to get a decent seat. The tickets available for this local show were not over $25. Keeping it local with a limited number of ticket sales makes for affordable family fun that will lead to a lifetime of memories with your special loved ones.

Many times patrons overlook attending church or college Broadway remakes, when in fact these can have some of the best unknown actors in the business. Many of these actors are students who will eventually be cast in huge Broadway shows. Getting a chance to see them before their fame can be rather exciting. I attended a local stage show of Phantom of the Opera put on by our local University. I was surprised at how real and powerful the performance was. The music, costume and stage effects left me truly awestruck.

Visiting a local show also makes for a great date night, many times theater can bring a couple closer. On our first date, my husband and I went to a small theater to see the play; Madame Butterfly. It made for a great conversation piece over dinner later that night.

Whatever your lifestyle or budget, visiting your local theater to see a show is something everyone should try once.

Bringing the Theater into your life, leaves a lasting impression that will enrich you and others around you.

My parents never took me to the theater, when I was going to high school in Syracuse the school took us to the Syracuse Stage, and I fell in love! I hope I could introduce my children (hypothetically) a couple of times to see if they like it
