Kalikat can easily be reached by air from any major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai. It can be also reached by train from Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. We had booked our stay in Kadvu Retreat at Kalikat, which is only around 8 miles away from Kalikat airport. We traveled by hired car from Kalikat airport to Kadvu Retreat. This Retreat is also known as Malabar of North Kerala. This retreat is one of sthe loveliest secret of Kerala and thousands of tourists visit this retreat every year to enjoy the sweet secrets of Kerala. We started with the back water ride in the River in a boat, made of the leaves of the coconut trees. The boat was quiet large and our entire family of around ten people could easily travel in it. This journey of around 60 miles in the clear back waters of the River was the high point of our tour to Kerala. We started our journey in the early morning hours at around 7 am and returned back to our resort by around 6 pm in the evening. We had carried packed lunch with us for enjoying it during our back water journey. The evenings at this Kadvu Resort is full of activities like spa, gym, long leisurely walks, and swimming in the blue water swimming pool. The Ayurvedic massage offered at this Retreat is worth enjoying as it removes all the fatigue and frustration from your body and the mind and recharging yourself with fresh energy. Daily one special massage is offered free of cost at this resort. The tourists interested in fishing can certainly have wonderful time as there are lots of spots and facilities for fishing at this Retreat. The rates for this Kadvu Retreat are in the range of around Rs.6000 ($150) per day for a nice and cozy double room with all the facilities including two meals.
The next day was allotted to the city of Kalikat. This was the city, where the famous traveler Vasco De Gama had landed at this Kappad Sea shore of Kalikat in the year 1498. There is a small monument placed in the memory of this great traveler. Kalikat is famous for the traditional Indian hot masalas. The relaxing bath in the sea at Kalikat could also be enjoyable. We returned to our Kadvu Retreat in the evening and again enjoyed the tasty Malabari food delicacies by sitting at the largest swimming pool of South India at this Retreat. The next day was for visiting Vaithiri Resort, which is situated only around 4 miles from Kadvu Retreat. This resort is operated by Serena Spa - A German Company. This wonderful resort is made on the grounds where there was a tea plantation earlier. That is why this resort presents unique beauty of its own in the middle of the thick green forests. This resort has still not allowed all the modern amenities to enter in it. So, the tourists can get the feel of a small village of Kerala while staying here. We stayed at this Resort for two nights and enjoyed it very much. Our final stop was at the Rain forest, situated in the district of Vachnad, which is around 36 miles away from the city of Kalikat. The Green Magic Nature Resort, situated in the middle of the forest of Vaithiri, is the best place to stay. This resort provides the room on the top of the trees. You need to climb around 85 feet to reach to your cottage. This cottage of two rooms and the kitchen offers the excellent facilities to the tourists. At least, one night halt must be made at this resort to enjoy the thick forest of Vaithiri. The rates for this lovely resort are around Rs.8000 ($200) per day for the full cottage. We stayed here at this resort for one night and strongly recommend to stay here to all the visitors to Kerala.
Our visit to Kerala was really enjoyable and hence, I have no hesitation in suggesting visiting it to all my AC friends and readers during their next visit to India.
