Visit Maui This Summer

Many vacation destinations will offer the power to create memories that last a lifetime, but few will fulfill the promise like the island of Mauii does. If you are looking for relaxation, they've got it. Their weather is near-perfect, they offer great places to stay, beaches that aren't crowded, and the setting inspires a sense of wonder and awe. If it is adventure and exciting experiences you want, they've got that as well. It doesn't have to be -20 outside for you to consider a warm climate vacation. Mauii has something to offer for every season, and this summer, there is no reason you shouldn't consider it as your vacation spot. In fact, by traveling in warmer weather, you may even run across a few summer deals for the off-season.

In Maui, the ancient Hawaiian chants will tell you the story of the demi god Mauii who harnessed sun from above the 10,000 foot Haleakala to slow its progress across the heaven. He made the perfect day on his namesake island last just a little bit longer. From that same spot today, you can look out over the island to see its terrain. Here you will see the beach-lined South Coast and the many resorts that line the waterfront. Beaches are undoubtedly one of THE highlights of Maui, and why shouldn't it be. They offer forty-two miles of uncrowded and sublime beaches. Here is an excellent review of Maui beaches.

If you are looking to poke around and explore Maui culture, you will find plenty here and some great shopping as well. In the east, you will see forested mountains and a number of waterfalls that surround Hana. The road to Hana is a series of turns at hair-pin widths and they are covered with single-lane bridges where you will discover breathtaking panoramas wherever you look. Or perhaps you want to check out Maui's central valley, which is anchored by Wailuku at the doorstep of Iao Valley and the bustling Kahului. The Iao Valley is most noted for its pristine mountain stream and the Iao Needle, a green manteled outcropping rising more than 100 stories from the valley floor. On your way in, stop at the Hawaii Nature Center to learn more about Maui's natural history. When you are done your culture lesson, you can find local eateries here in Wailuku along with a collection of antique shops. Kahului is the commercial center of the island and home to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center and Maui's largest mall, the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center.

There is no better way to experience Maui culture than through the Keiki Hula. Here you will enjoy the grace, skill and beauty of the Hawaiian dance that is interpreted through the innocence of young children. The Lahaina Canner Mall's free Keiki Hula show is held each weekend, and is just one of many Maui events that showcases the talent of their beautiful children. Many resorts offer hula lessons as well. If this is something you would like to try, check out this review of Maui resorts to see if any offer this exceptional additional service.

It is nearly impossible to imagine a place more relaxing than Maui. But if, as some say, the key to relaxation is activity, few places will compare to Maui. On the ground, in the air, on the water, in the beach, or under water, Maui is most notably one of the world's greatest playgrounds.

Hike trails are equal to none, horseback rides are also a popular activity. Kayak, snorkel, or dive in their pristine water. Surf the tropical trade winds. And even if after all of that shopping and surfing you still aren't done playing in Maui, you can check out their fabulous nightlife.

Maui offers everything you want in a summer destination. What are you waiting for?
