The design of this city is really very beautiful and eye catching. There are many tourists places to be visited here at this fantastic city. The first and foremost is the Vrundavan Gardens. This beautiful garden is built near the dam of Krishnarajsagar on the River Krishna. The garden is decorated with many colored fountains and looks extremely beautiful during the night time due to the fantastic light decoration of the garden. The famous show of the musical fountains must not be missed at any cost while visiting this garden. The best time to visit this garden is in the late evening till night so that you can feel the romantic beauty of this garden. The next place to see is Chamunda Hills. There is a temple of Chamunda Mataji on top of this Mountain. This Chamunda Mata is the goddess of the kings of Mysore. There is a circular scenic road up to the top of this Mountain so that you can drive your car up to the top. While climbing up the Mountain, one large bull (Nandi) comes in the way, engraved from black stone. This Nandi is so big that we can not reach up to the horns of the bull even after raising our hands fully. There is a very big statue of Mahishashur, the most famous devil as per Hindu Vedas, in the compound of this temple of Chamunda Mata. The statue of Chamunda Mata is extremely beautiful and can create lot of spiritual energy in our body while we look straight in to the eyes of Mataji.
The royal palace of Mysore is one of the best palaces in whole of India. Its architecture and decoration is really the most impressive. The tourists are allowed to see some portion of this palace. There is a very large museum located near to this palace. This museum presents the entire history of Mysore kingdom along with the pictures of all the kings of Mysore State. There is also a big zoo here in the garden of the palace. All the animals of this Karnataka area are preserved in this zoo. If you happen to visit this palace of Mysore on Dussehra day, which comes in every October, you will be able to see the most gorgeous parade that is held in the palace compound. The present king of the Mysore State comes by sitting on the back of Royal elephant and then, addresses to the people of Mysore from his Royal seat followed by the traditional entertainment program. There is also a very famous statue of Gomteshwar to be seen here near the palace. There are lots of industries of sandal wood and soaps at Mysore. The most typical items that all the tourists buy from here are the items made from sandal wood, pure sandal oil, and the bath soaps with flavor of sandal wood. However, make sure to keep local and reliable guide with you while carrying out shopping to negotiate the rates effectively. Also, make sure to carry out your purchases from the government approved shops only to get the quality items.
There are many luxurious hotels like Hotel Palace, Woodlands, Hotel regency, Hotel Mysore Palace, and the State Government's guest house. All such hotels offer 4 and 5 star amenities and have tariff of Rs.6000 ($150) to Rs.8000 ($200) per day for a nice double room based on American plan of only staying. All meals are excluded from these rates. However, there are lovely restaurants that offer fantastic South Indian food delicacies with other continental items attached to all these hotels. Mysore is an expensive city and the tourists may have to plan their financial budget carefully in advance.
In spite of it being expensive, city of Mysore is a place that every tourist would love to visit while touring India. I have myself visited this lovely city more than once and have no hesitation in strongly recommending visiting this city at least once in their lifetime to all my AC friends.
