Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium
You must visit the Pittsburgh Zoo if you come to Pittsburgh. The Zoo is actually pretty new, established just 7 years ago. The aquarium gives a home to more than 40 aquatic exhibits. The zoo is Pittsburgh's only public aquarium and also makes Pittsburgh one of only six zoos in the united States to also have a major aquarium inside. There are more than 4,000 aquatic animals from all over the world housed within its tanks. Come see the stingrays, penguins, exotic fish, and an electric eel. Also in the aquarium are simulated coral, the Amazon Rainforest Exhibit, which is a two-story recreation of a flooded Amazon rainforest. It includes plantlife, piranhas, and best of all, a stingray tunnel. The stingray Tunnels are an educational exhibit where kids can crawl through a large, clear tunnel. While crawling, they can watch the stingrays swimming both alongside and above them. Four hundred species are represented within the Zoo itself, and includes thousands of animals overall. 32 endangered or threatened species are on display. Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is open every day of the week, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. For more information go to www.pittsburghzoo.com .
The South Side
Pittsburgh's South Side is a legend in the making. Few people who party in the town have not had a night, or a hundred, partying on Carson Street. Carson street is lined up on way and down the other with shops, tattoo parlors, restaurants and bars. But mostly bars and dance clubs dominate the South Side. Some of the more popular bars include: 50 Yard Line, Bernies Twilight Zone, import Tap, Kelly's Tavern, Pap's Tap, Shamrock Express, and Marianna's Place. There are literally dozens more than that. Art Galleries are also located on the South Side, such as the Beverly Arts Center, Orphanage, and the South side Community Art Center. Southwest Book and Videos and Borders can be found for the readers in the group. Come and party in a mini-Mardi Gras environment on the weekend, with thousands of people doing the "Carson Crawl" as they make their way from one bar to anther. Most places don't charge a cover, so you're free to explore all night. When you're finished, take a walk down to the Holiday Inn Express, located on the side streets of Carson, and sleep your night off.
