My family never really takes long summer vacations. My husband owns his own business and cannot take many days away from work. Our children are still small and long road trips are not very pleasant. Therefore we try to schedule multiple small trips instead.

Our most recent trip was to Point Mallard Park in Decatur, Alabama. The park has many different sections. We only attended the water park.

Along with my family, which consist of my husband, a two year old and a soon to be four year old, and I, we took a thirteen year old friend of the family.

The trip, despite weather complications, was great.

It is very important for us to attend a place that is suitable for both very young children and adults. Many spots that we have visited are limited on entertaining our children. However, Point Mallard Water Park was different.

My husband, four year old, and our older friend enjoyed the wave pool. My two year old was not so impressed with the waves. The wave pool is great for older children or very brave younger children. There were four lifeguards on duty at the wave pool at all times. Two were standing ready and two were sitting and watching.

My two year old loved the toddler's section. One section was full of a small slide that he could do by himself and riding toys. There were also sprinklers. The slightly larger children's sections had more sprinklers and a climbing gym with larger slides. The two sections were side by side and could easily be watched at the same time. My four year old could go from pool to pool without us worrying.

For older children and adults, there is an Olympic pool with platforms and diving boards. There are also four huge water slides. Neither of my two young children was tall enough to go down the slides. (I would not have let them go anyway!)

At the park entrance, there is an air supply to blow up floats. Therefore you can travel with your floats deflated. You can also rent floats. To keep up with your personal belonging, you can rent a locker with a key. I especially like this. The key is on a hug strong safety pin and is easy to keep up with.

Lunch can be bought at the water park for a somewhat reasonable cost. We bought a pizza, which feed all five of us. It was $14.00.

There is also a first aide section where you can get band aides and such if needed.

Overall, I think that the park really has its act together and is a great place to visit.
