If you have any interest in Barnes & Nobles and coffee shops, Portland is definitely a city worth visiting.
Known for its cloudy gray skies, Portland makes up for the shifting weather with plenty of coffee and books. Portland is also known for bringing in great authors for book signings and presentations.
Powell's books also allow visitors to thumb through books without having to buy it.
Another place to check out in the city of Portland is the Doug Fir Lounge located at 830 e. Burnside Street. The Lounge is slightly rugged and hip. The Lounge also has interesting specialty drinks such as the tart Blackberry Cosmo and the Cowboy Coffee. The Lounge is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is a trendy and hip place to go in the city of Portland.
Portland is also a great city to find quirky music from local artists.
Portland is a busy place full of browsers and people with hoods. If you are hoping to blend in, skip the umbrella and grab a baseball cap. Locals are used to the rain and umbrellas are mainly for the tourists.
On a beautiful sunny day, Portland visitors can hit one of the many beautiful parks scattered throughout the town.
It is also fun to catch a movie in the city at the Bagdad Theater & Pub along Hawthorne Blvd. The cinema has cheap movies (only $3 per person) and also serves pizza and alcohol.
Portland is a popular city for all these reasons and more, so load up the hooded sweatshirts and hit the road!
