The St. Louis Gateway Arch was designed, planned out and executed by famous architect Eero Saarinen. Rising over 600 feet high into the clear blue Missouri skyline, the Gateway Arch remains the tallest monument in the United States of America today. This gigantic monument boasts a rich history and culture all it's own. Various films, books, and journalistic endeavors feature the Gateway Arch's mystic beauty.

The St. Louis Gateway Arch Underground Visitor Center is made of a rich earthy fantasy. Upon stepping inside, you'll notice the finely tuned circular floor pattern. The Gateway Arch Visitor Center is equipped with a massive showcase including 100 years of rich Westward Expansion. One feels the strength and endurance of the lonely, yet wind hardened travelers as they swept across the plains chasing their dreams. Other tourist attractions include the multiple passenger trams that whisk you away to the top of the St. Louis Gateway Arch and the Museum of Westward Expansion and the observation room. The real attraction of the Gateway Arch hasn't even started yet, but one can certainly appreciate the ground floor novelties that escape the plans of the casual traveler.

If the St. Louis Arch Visitor Center wasn't enough, tourists have the option to place themselves directly in the lifestyle of those that came before them. The Levee Mercantile, a Riverfront Store underneath the Gateway Arch is in the style of the 1870s offers a plethora of products from the era. From traditional 1870s cuisine to general accessories used at the time of westward expansion, there is bound to be something for everybody who enjoys history at the Levee Mercantile. One of the great things about the tradition Cuisine is that it's prepared in the same manner that it was during it's time. When visiting the St. Louis Gateway Arch Levee Mercantile store, you'll truly believe that you've traveled back to a simpler time, the 1870s.

For those of us that yearn to be close to the Gateway Arch but can't due to financial issues of other setbacks, there are various films that honor the Gateway Arch and it's rich history. Visit your local library or video store for more information on this time honored legacy, held close to the heart by Midwesterners, Missourians, and Americans in general. If you come to St. Louis, I strongly urge you to visit the Gateway Arch. With it's vast library of attractions and entertainment, you will not be disappointed.

Though the Gateway Arch has one of the more lenient schedules out of the American monuments, there are still restriction on when you can visit.
