Visit the Sunny and Sandy Sea Beach of Chorwad Near Junagadh in Gujarat State of India

Taru Mehta
The western coast of India is full of beautiful sea beaches. The State of Gujarat has many beautiful sea beaches that are worth visiting. The sea beach of Chorwad is one such beach. One cannot view the land or the seashore from the beach at Chorwad. Chorwad is located 35 miles from the city of Junagadh. Many visitors come to this lovely sea beach because it provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the open sea at very nominal rates.

One can easily reach Chorwad by reaching up to Junagadh by train from Ahmedabad, which starts at 9 pm from Ahmedabad and reaches Junagadh at around 7 am in the next day morning. The further journey up to Chorwad can be done either in a State Transport buses or the hired taxi. It only takes around an hour to reach Chorwad from Junagadh by road. Chorwad is also a railway station on Junagadh-Veraval railway line. However, as the sea beach of Chorwad is around 8 miles away from this railway station, it may not be convenient to reach Chorwad directly by train. As soon as you reach Chorwad, you start feeling cool breeze blowing in spite of hot summer. There is a resort managed by Government of Gujarat here at Chorwad and it is the only place to stay for the tourists. There are four types of cottages available here at this resort. Type A cottage is the best of all and offers a complete suit, consisting of 2 bedrooms, kitchen and a fully furnished drawing room. This A type cottage can easily accommodate 6 to 10 people. The charges for such A type cottage are Rs.1200 ($30) per day excluding all meals. Similarly, the charges for B, C, and D type of cottages are Rs.800 ($20), Rs.600 ($15), and Rs.400 ($10) per day respectively and can accommodate 6, 4, and 2 persons respectively. The level of the facilities also varies depending upon the type of accommodation you select. I would suggest going for the best type of cottage and that is A type. There is also a reasonably good canteen that serves standard Gujarati meals and the standard breakfast items at very reasonable rates. The lunch or dinner costs around Rs.60 ($1.5) per head. There are no other restaurants or hotels available here at Chorwad. Hence, the only option available is to stay at this resort, which is known as Toran resort.

The resort is situated just opposite to the sea beach. Hence, it is very convenient to stay here at resort, enjoying the long walks and leisurely baths in the sea here. There is one closed built in area, which is specified for taking bath. It is suggested to remain in this area only while taking a bath, as it may be dangerous to take bath in the open sea at the time of full tide as there are very large waves coming at that time. There have been some incidents of drowning here at this sea beach. Hence, one has to be extremely careful while taking bath or moving inside the sea. Particularly, one must be careful as far as the children are concerned. The long walks in bare foot condition in the sand can prove to be very healthy. The best time to visit this beach is during the winter months of November to March. The summer months are very hot here and may prevent you to move out at the beach from 11 am to 6 pm. You must also carry your own drinking water supply with you, as the drinking water available here is not up to the standard. It is also suggested to book your accommodation at the resort, well in advance as there is a big rush of the tourists, almost all through the year. If you want to enjoy the real stormy sea, plan your visit on or near to full moon or no moon days, as there will be a peak tide on those days.

I have stayed at this lovely sea beach for around three days during last winter and I was able to recharge myself to a great extent. I would recommend all my AC readers to visit this fantastic sea beach during their next visit to India.
