Visiting Fair Oaks Farms in Indiana
Neighborhood: Northern Indiana
Fair Oaks, IN 47943
United States of America
One of the largest dairy farms in the country is located only 2 hours northwest of Indianapolis. Directions can be found here at google maps. Fair oaks Farms is a 17,000 acre farm and home to 30,000 dairy cows. Visiting as an individual, a family or a group you will be sure to enjoy a fun day on this educational and very interesting dairy farm. The farm is open for tours and bus tours thru the week. For hours and admissions prices you can check here Fair Oaks Farms.

Fair Oaks is family owned by two generations of dairymen and a third in training. The farm is committed to environmentally sound practices, and raises its own feed for the cows and never treats them with hormones. They bottle their own milk and make ice cream and award-winning cheeses on-site.

Each one of the 30,000 cows is milked three times per day and more then 80,000 milkings are performed everyday in a farm that never shuts down. An average of 80 calves are born everyday at Fair oaks Farms. Each cow produces almost 10 gallons of milk per day.

On the dairy barn tour you will get a behind the scenes tour of how four million glasses of milk are produced everyday. You get to witness from an observation suite how 72 cows get milked all at once on a giant carousel.

The dairy adventure theater 4D takes you from the harvest of the land, to the cow, to the milk and to the manure. Then back to the naturally fertilized land. The circle of dairy life happens everyday at Fair Oaks Farms.

The birthing barn is another extraordinary place you get to visit. In fact it is one you won't want to forget. A Fair oaks Farms expert explains what is happening and is always there to give Mother Nature a helping hand. You also get to visit the nursery where newborns are hand-fed.

You can enjoy lunch in the café and visit the cheese factory. The gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches are delicious and save room for dessert. You will want to have some fresh homemade ice cream - the Brown Cow Sundae was a great choice! The café menu can be found here - menu.

This is a very fun, entertaining and educational day trip from Indianapolis.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I'm a mother of 5, all grown, and I've 3 grandchildren that I spoil. Life is full of joy and I am here to live it. I am an explorer, a reader, a writer, a think...  View profile
