Fishing
Due to the unusually warm water at Hyco Lake, fishing is available year round. The lake is an excellent spot for bass and crappie fishing, but catching a large catfish is not out of the question. Regulars to the lake know a few really sweet spots and if you catch the right one he or she might be willing to share a secret or two! There are places on the lake that hold so many schooling fish that the water seems to boil at certain parts of the day!
Boating
There are several boat ramps located at Hyco Lake. There is an annual fee of $45 or a daily fee of $15 to put your boat in the water. Because the lake is not usually busy it is a great place for water skiing or wake boarding. There are several docks to tie your boat off and gas pumps are located on the lake for refueling.
Camping/Picnicking
There are many campsites available at Hyco Lake and several cabins that can be rented as well. Pets are allowed, but must be leashed. Electricity is available at each camp site and there is a central bathhouse and vending machines. There are plenty of great spots for picnicking if you just want to visit for the day. There is a swimming area with grills and picnic table available and also picnic shelters can be rented by contacting Lake Authority.
Hyco Lake is an excellent way to spend the day or an inexpensive vacation for the whole family.
