Visiting Joyous City of Jalandhar in Punjab State in India

Jalandhar is one of the most important cities of Punjab State in India. It was the capital city of Hindu rule during15th century. However, it got developed during the Muslim rule there after. There are many temples and the mosques here at Jalandhar. It is also a very important industrial city of Punjab State having a population of around one million.

Jalandhar is well connected by air, rail, and road from all the major cities of North India. The nearest airport is Chandigarh, which is around 40 miles away from Jalandhar. Jalandhar itself is a big railway station that is connected by train from all the major cities of Punjab. There is a regular bus service to Jalandhar from all the major cities of Punjab. There are quite a few hotels, where you can plan to stay. Hotel Dolphin situated on G.T. Road, Hotel Kamal Palace in Civil Lines, Hotel President on Police Lines Road, And Hotel Green Park at Green Park are some of the best hotels here. All these hotels offer 3 star amenities with the tariff of around Rs.2500 ($63) per day for a good double room, based on American plan. The breakfast is included in these rates and all other meals are to be paid extra. There are many site seeing places to be seen here at Jalandhar. Devi Talav is the most vital place to be visited. This pond is around 300 years old and is a very holy and sacred place of pilgrimage of Hindus. This pond is very large, having total area of around 12 square miles. The stone work at the shore of this pond is really eye catching and superb. All the pilgrims take a holy bath here. The next spot is the famous mosque of Jummamasjid. This mosque is around 500 years old and is considered very holy and sacred for all Muslims. The famous Imam Nasir museum is the next item on your list. This museum is around 800 years old. It has many specimens from 13th century. The entire history of Punjab is shown here in many paintings on the walls of this museum. It has all the weapons used by the king of Punjab during various Muslim attacks. Jalandhar is famous for all the sports equipments like cricket bats, Tennis rackets, and Hockey sticks etc. Most of the visitors make sure to buy such sports equipments from Jalandhar.

There are many excursions that can be visited from Jalandhar. Kapurthala is one of such excursions to be visited, which is only around 11 miles away from Jalandhar. There is one most beautiful Hindu temple in the middle of the city. Jagjit Mahal and the Shalimar garden are also the places to be seen here. Kanjali birds reserve is a place that should not be missed. It is around 5 miles away from Kapurthala. There is a beautiful lake here that has the facility of boating. The boating during early mornings and evenings is really a very pleasant experience. The bird's sanctuary also offers many rare varieties of the birds from as far as Siberia. Nakodar is around 15 miles away from Jalandhar. There are two Muslim tombs here in between the thick forest of trees. These tombs are said to be 600 years old and it is believed that if you visit this place with some wish in your heart, it gets fulfilled very soon. Noor Mahal is situated around 9 miles away from Nakodar. This palace was built by Mogul King Jehangir in the memory of his beloved wife Noorjehan.

The best time to visit Jalandhar is during the winter season from October to March. The weather here during winter is extremely pleasant. However, summer is very severe and must be avoided for visit. All types of food delicacies are available here at Jalandhar. However, the local Punjabi food items are the best here. The food served at most of the restaurants is quite spicy. So, make sure to specify your taste while ordering.

Punjab is the State that is full of historical cities and each city has its own importance in the history of India. It may not be possible to cover all such cities in one visit of India. However, you may try to cover couple of cities each time during your visit to Northern part of India.
