When I first started watching NASCAR, Kurt Busch was a driver I supported. My best friend also supports him because he now drives the car she once followed. After meeting him twice last year, the two of us decided that we had to visit his personal race shop. Now most fans probably aren't aware of the fact that he even has a race shop, let alone where it is. Those who follow the directions to the shop probably wonder if it even exists.

Kurt Busch Inc. is located in Mooresville, North Carolina, but it's pretty far away from anything. The first time we visited we wondered if we were even going the right way and this year we almost drove right past the road because it wasn't clearly marked. Once you get there, you'll see a little sign out front and a darkened building. In fact my best friend wasn't even sure they were really open because the building was so dark.

This year we went back because they had such a great gift shop last year and everything was very reasonably priced. My friend wanted to replace a hat she bought last year and there were a few diecast cars I wanted that I saw on their website. Once we got to Kurt Busch Inc. and walked inside, we knew right away that something had changed.

Last year they had two rooms open to the public. The second room let guests see out into the race shop and see where Kurt Busch hung out while he was in town. They had some of his cars out and other things for fans to see. This room was actually featured on the television show CMT Cribs. The room even had a few trophies and one of his older cars on display. This year the room was completely dark and closed off to the public.

Kurt Busch Inc. now consists of a single room. They have several display cases out, which showed all of the cars Kurt drove in his career, in diecast form. Those cars are also for sale. They had a small gift shop area with a few random things for sale and one of his cars out. That was it.

I stopped the woman at the desk and asked about the cars for sale. The two I was interested in she couldn't find on the list because they were organized by date and not name. She finally found the two I wanted, but could only tell me that they were out of stock. I asked a simple question about Kurt's career and she had no answer for me. She did however try to convince us to buy $100 raffle tickets for a special promotion with the Kurt Busch Foundation. Frankly I could do a better job sitting there at the desk.

Our trip to Kurt Busch Inc. took twenty minutes of drive time and we spent half that time inside. Frankly it wasn't worth our time driving out there despite the fact that we both like him. The only person working wasn't helpful, they had marked up the prices on merchandise and there wasn't anything to see. We were better off visiting Roush-Fenway Racing where we saw more memorabilia and then visiting his souvenir hauler at the track for merchandise.
